P0011

So I just threw a P0011 today. Car seems to be running just fine. I've just read through a few good threads on here about this DTC and found that checking my oil first, or switching out an easy sensor on the top of the engine should fix the issue.

What I was curious about was:
1- Should I clear the code after checking the oil and see if it comes back before I do anything else?
2- Should I mess with a dealership and run the risk of them seeing my Trifecta tune, knowing I have the stealthier version?

Please don't give me any pay to play speeches, this has nothing to do with the tune....

According to the Engine Code Manual it states: Camshaft Control, Bank 1 intake rationality low / high, Primary malfunction = difference to start test (filtered actual angle vs filtered desired angle) > (Desired must remain above value to test to complete the evaluation) threshold = 6.0 - 11.0 degrees. Secondary parameters = engine speed( > 480 rpm), engine run time( > 1 sec), coolant temperature(< 143 C and > -48 C), engine oil temperature (< 143 C and >-48 C). hope this helps.

Lol, that's a lot of math there! Yes, it does help me understand what's going on, thank you!

that code was set in my history on my car but it never popped a CEL on the dash. for the cam phasors. im in the middle of getting the problem fixed.

on a COLD start does it make a really annoying squeal? it last about a second or 2

No, other than the DTC code there has been nothing unusual. Also, it is 65 degrees today so not a real cold start....

the actuators are failing or getting clogged. change them out i recommend doing both intake and exhaust at the same time because once one starts to go the other isn't far behind.

Anyone got a part # on these? All I am coming up with is a camshaft position sensor. Need the part for the two actuators on top.

I got them it is #12628347 & #12628348. I'm guessing dealer only item except for gmpartsdirect but with their $12 shipping it is almost the exact match to the dealer price. So I guess I will just let the dealer order me one.

I reset the code yesterday, and today as I was getting ready to park it came back on, same thing P0011... Since the weather is going to be beautiful tomorrow, I am going to Seafoam the engine, and change spark plugs and oil.

that won't help them sponge....might make it go away for a week or so but the code will come back.

So they need to be swapped out then? Is this something I should take to the dealership if I am over the 3/36k warranty?

Oh, I am 100% confident in being able to do it, I just don't want to pay the $100 or so for parts if this is something that should be covered.

well its covered under powertrain and extended so if you want to go to the dealer you shouldn't have any issues getting it covered.

Unless you're visibly modified in any way shape or form.

Shouldn't matter unless you've painted the valve cover or something. There's really no way a mod can damage the solonoids

Dealers don't care if it can really affect the car, they just have an excuse. Not all dealers are the same, obviously, but if I even put a sticker on my car, my dealer would deny warranty service.

that sucks. up here a few of the dealers have alot of car enthusiasts so the warranty thing is pretty relaxed unless the broken part is due to obvious abuse.
