PnP turbo upgrades
PnP turbo upgrades
ok since the BNR thing is coming about lets say we have a talk about options and potential for the car
DEjon 2 options it seems:
The Mitsu EVO3 16g is rated at 375hp and DSM-EVO guys have run into the 10’s with it. Boost is all in at 3300 in 3rd gear which is only about 300rpm higher than our factory Borg-Warner turbo. We take a new turbo and:
1.Port the turbine inlet to match the manifold adapter elbow
2.Port the compressor outlet to gasket match the elbow
3.Drill and tap a pressure outlet fitting
4.Modify a Garrett high boost wastegate actuator
5.Rotate it all to align correctly and re-weld WGA mtg boss
Note: We do not alter the center section from Mitsu's assemby. But due to the other extensive modifications, Mitsu will not warrant the turbo. The turbo should be inspected immediately upon receipt according to the check list included. Notify us of any shipping damage. Once installed it cannot be returned for refund.
Modified Mitsu 16g turbo -TMod-16g-CBT - $859
The Forced Performance FP68HTA is rated at 430hp. It receives the same mods and conditions apply as the 16g above.
Modified FP68HTA turbo -TMod-FP68-CBT - $1099
(apparently the above options do need other parts to make them work )
theres the K04+ kit $900?
theres the BNR with 2860 2860+ and 2871 options $1000-1300
theres the mitsubishi turbo from the buick itself which supposedly can push a little bit more CFM.. (looks identical to the ss/tc turbo aside from metal bpv cover and some minor positioning tweaks, it will be interesting to see compressor upgrades and such for this ) $350 new
discuss
i'm looking forward to seeing you guys go fast cheap.. and... looking stock would be fun lol pull the ol' stg3 skittle mantra.. "stock with some bolt ons" lulz

Hahn is a bunch of bs. I called them about the ko4+ when I was looking at doing that and they told me they wont do it because its not cost efficient. So I told them to take it off there website if there not selling it.
ahh my fault i just happen to see it on there i didn't realize they weren't doing it .. i know their other 2 turbo kits are being made
Not sure why the op posted those 16g turbos from dejon, they don't bolt up to anything, you need a bunch of other parts to make it work and it drives the price up beyond what the bnr 2871 costs.
Hahn is right, its not cost efficient to spend 900 for just a compressor wheel upgrade.

Hahn needs to do us all a favor and update their website since they are still dated back to 2008 when the Cobalt SS/TC was first released and still have the same old parts, but nothing really innovating to buy anything from them. It's almost the end near 2010. You look at others like ZZP, MPx, and now Treadstone with what they have come up with; while Hahn still lags behind the competition with new upgrades. Oh yeah, I forgot about Dejon Powerhouse they are old news too just like Hahn nothing new and exciting.
A little update: Sorry its a little long
So I went down to Forced Inductions yesterday and he called his Mitsubishi parts guy (believe it or not only 1 guy runs all of the Mitsubishi turbo side in North America), there is no number in the system yet for the new Regal LNF turbo. Until they have it in the system the only way to know what will interchange would be to take the turbo apart and physically measure everything. He said there are many different variations of the same wheel combo's. He told me Mitsubishi takes there sweet time updating there system.
Something else I found out Forced Inductions actually makes turbos for BW all the S series turbos, he took me back in the shop and showed me the raw castings, then the finished castings. Even said I could get a BW cheaper then I could from BW themselves.
They make Garrett ETR series wheels, he showed me a HUGE billet Garrett ETR wheel, told me it weighs 200 grams less then the cast equivelent. They had a room full of Compressor/Turbine wheels from Garret, BW, Mitsubishi along with blank castings.
They do stuff for all the major turbo manufacturers, Mitsubishi, Garrett, BW, Precision, etc. Forced Inductions also makes there own brand turbochargers (no brainer if your making parts for other major manufacturers).
BW upgrade talk:
Here is something really interesting, after explaining to him that the turbo in my car was actually a BW, not Mitsubishi (had to explaint that one to him). He got on his phone and called the chief engineer at BW to try and find out possible upgrades, lol. He put it on speaker phone, but the guy was out of his office, we got the answering machine and he left a voice message.
I told him that Werks and BTF said there was only 1 upgrade available, but I guess he wanted to check for himself. I also wanted to know how much the upgrade wheel was to see how much it really cost vs. how much we are getting charged.
He told me there biggest Billet Compressor wheel for BW he made for bigger BW turbos (about a gazillion times bigger then ours) would cost $500, so I find it hard to believe a smaller one like ours would be anywhere close. Told him how much BTF and Werks was charging and about the upgrade, he said there is no way in hell he would pay that price for something like that (take this as you want).
He did say I would be better off upgrading the stock BW over Mitsubishi, BW has better technology and more power in the same size turbo.
Do any of you have the actual part # for our BW K04 turbo off the turbo itself? If I give this to him he can find out all possible upgrades asap with out having to go through so many channels.
I know BNR is making us some turbos, but it would be nice to know about possible upgrades (from someone who actually makes BW turbochargers) in case BNR doesn't pan out or that might be cheaper for the guy not wanting to spend over $1k.
If you have the actual BW K04 part# just pm it to me and I'll call him and tell him, thanks.

Thanks to the people who pm'd me the LNF K04 info. I'll try and get the info to the guy tommorow if they are in ( they do Outlaw racing and usually gone Thursday to Sunday).
If I can't get him the info this week, it won't be till a week from this next Monday, leaving Saturday for a 7 day Vacation to Disney World.

cool it would be interesting to see some more options for you guys
if it's 500 bux i'm assuming we'd need to install it ourselves
