Extreme Knock, could be a fouled plug, check your cp and intercooler for cracks. Whats the Code? (P0300?) If your car is smoking you could have blown/cracked a piston

In his situation, I bet he wishes that's what it was. Sorry to hear about your problem though.

Sounds like a possible cracked piston 4 ringland. Do a compression test.

Mine does the same thing. Seems to do it more when it's wet and in the 30's outside. I don't know why.

I've checked all kinds of things to see what it was, no luck yet. If it's what I'm experiencing then I doubt it's anything with a piston primarily because it goes away.
Just two nights ago it was doing it as I made my 40 mile trek home. After about 15 miles I went WOT again and it was gone. Never did come back yet. But this has happened before. It goes away, I just don't know why it does it or why it stops. It's annoying as all **** though when it happens.
I also noticed when it happens the boost is about 5 psi lower.

Ya i will be sittin at a light and you can hear it just sound like its misfiring. It will be idling normal and youll hear it started to make popping noises. this happened to me before having a misfire in cylinder 4. What causes misfires im not to sure. Hopefully the problem goes away soon it sucks

Dont jump into a cracked piston. First swap cyl 3 and 4 coil packs and see if its a coil pack that went bad. While your swapping packs check your spark plugs for a burnt or messed up plug. a black plug in cylinder 4 will mean you are getting no spark under load and not burning the fuel "meaning coil pack or plug failure". Oil on the plug means cracked piston/ring. White tipped plug means you have a injector that is clogged and not spraying "if the other plugs look fine" There have been numerous cars with injector problems that i know of. I recently had a coil pack go out. Car would drive normal till you got on it hitting any load then it would steadly misfire. At idle it would idle decent but was rough and stumbled every 4 or 5 seconds.

My first guess is a bad coil pack. Had this happen to a buddies car it was a little diff his plug wire would pop out and the car sounded like a subbie

also think about doing a fuel system clean. or seafoam. i had a missfire in cylinder 4 that would only happen when i got into boost and couldnt figure out what it could be because all coil packs were good and plugs and compression was fine as well. tunrs out it was a clogged injector. i would honestly reccommend fuel system treatment or seafoam every 8-10k miles. mine happened at only 13k

more than likely not a blown piston unless on a bad tune because these engines are pretty solid.

Ya I'm at 12500 miles how do I seafoam it?
Also at idle like you said it'll be fine then just start to randomly pop

To seafoam: "Requires 2 people"
Pull brake booster line off and start car. will idle funny
pour seafoam into brake booster line while other person keeps car idleing "will be hard"
Pour a good amount in "almost half a pint" and when you see smoke start to come out the exhaust add a little more and kill the car.
Replace the brake booster line " make sure the sensor is plugged into the brake booster line"
wait about 15-20 mins then start the car. will still idle funny and may take a few seconds to start.
ride down the road with your new mosquito fogger and **** off all the neighbors

It will take a couple of good pulls to burn it all out so dont worry.

Well going to come back after i get home friday from work and swap cylinder 3-4 coilpacks then see where i get the misfire. If it stays in 4 probably banking on a bad plug or injector and if it moves to 3 ill get me a new coilpack
