Unhappy Possible Broken Turbo.... Rookie Mistake

Okay guys, I just learned that I installed my forge bypass valve incorrectly. I installed it with the opening facing up.

Reason behind that decision was the top of the turbo is flat and so I assumed the flat part of the bypass valve was supposed to match.

Anyway

this morning I get up to change it. It started raining yesterday and didn't wanna do it then.

I unscrew the bolts and grease up the valve and put it back in. I finger screw in all the bolts and tighten the bottom bolt pretty tight, then tighten the front bolt tight and then the top one keeps going endlessly....

I think to myself it isn't all bad, just unscrew another bolt and see if the bolt is just stripped. So I swap bolts and same thing with the new bolt. I'm clearly in denial at this point and I go swap out bolts again. So now I tried all bolts and it's starting to sink in. I striped the turbo....

After a few episodes of insults to myself and cussing I decide to ask for help. Am I screwed or with the other two bolts suffice?

Or should I just pull out my emergency credit card buy a BNR GT2860 or save for the EFR and boost 10psi to achieve my 350-375whp goal....

Like how bad is this.

Well the sad part is I didn't even know how I did it. Should I have not tightened the bottom and front tight just snug then tighten them all? Seems logical, I keep telling myself "You *******, you should have done that you moron"

I might try this.

see if you can tap it with a slightly larger diameter? Only do this after you make sure you have enough room to make it larger.

I'd try running a tap in it also. Be real careful.
Also I dont know what this looks like but maybe try a nut on the back.

Dude just tap that thing out... be very careful though... There is a chance that going just one size up will work without drilling and starting all new. The old threads will help you line up the tap also... take your time or it might get worse.

see if you can screw the bolt in with out the valve on it. if you can just go to a hardware store and get a longer bolt(or 3 if you want them all to match). or drill and put an insert or heli coil in it..

best results would be to go buy a drill bit and coresponding tap then drill the BPV if it cant use a larger bolt. But some one else had a better idea up there. Just see if you can use a longer bolt. not sure how much thread is in there though.

I think he is saying he stripped out the turbo housing... In that case a longer bolt will not work. He needs to either heli coil it or tap it out.

So I did some WOTs and I stayed at 23-25 psi. Pulled over and the bolt was about to fall out so I took it off and headed to the autozone

I then bought some Teflon tape and screwed it in place. it didn't tighten but now it doesn't slide out.

Soooo.... the two bolts keep a good seal if you guys are curious.

Dont bother with the teflon tape just keep the bolt out until you can fix it by re threading or putting a heli coil in it.

Personally, I would remove the turbo and tap the hole for the next size bolt, then drill the hole in the BPV for the next size bolt. It's a pain but the only way to do it. If it is the one bolt that has threads going all the way through the housing, you might be able to get a slightly longer bolt in there.

Okay gentlemen,

First off thank you all for taking the time to lend your knowledge and experience to help me aid my problem. I really appreciate the community.

The problem was solved with a longer bolt. I bought the same size metric bolt, but got it about a quarter inch longer. It went in just fine and all is well. I tightened all the bolts evenly and made sure not to crank down on any of them. All is well.

Thanks again for your contribution to my problem.

If this happens to someone else, we now know a fix lol.
