Power Loss!

As the title says, I'm having major power loss issues. I had the SS repaired at a dealership due to a melted head, the car runs fine under regular driving conditions, however, its just not up to par on the power side of the house...Before the work was done the RPD was reading 360tq and 340hp with the tune, now im reading 300tq and 250hp with the tune...I really have no clue what the problem is but the list of parts include all new gaskets, heads and sleeves....and ideas? I was pouring out grey smoke prior to the repair just for reference...any ideas of whats going on? Also, the last time I drove the car was in mid March and I just got back into it this past week so could ambient heat cause that much of a power loss?

What kind of boost are you seeing and is it stock or GMS1?

The rpd isnt too accurate after a tune, im making around 360 370tq and my rpd only reads 300-320, put it on a dyno and see what happens.

The dealer didnt flash me back, I untuned it before I took it in, and I retuned it last week...I'm seeing anywhere from 20-23psi with the same amount of power...and I used to run dead even with the two other SS's my buddies own with the same tune on, but not any more.

But now you claim it has been retuned and still no change. Did you notice the numbers before you retuned? I am not sure if the lower numbers you reported were before you re-flashed or after.

Do a compression test, as it sounds like you had a lot of work done with the sleeves and head work. I will assume from the monitoring side of things you havent noticed any boost leak and its still peaking/holding where it normally does?

The car checked out fine from the dealership, they did a compression test and it was all good, the car is peaking at around 22ish when it used to peak around 24ish, i took the chargepiping off and put it back on again to ensure im not leaking, I checked the hot side as well and it appeared to be okay...what shouild I read without the tune on? It may just be the tune itself?

Did they put rings and pistons in it when they re-sleeved it? Did they re-sleeve a 4 holes or just 1 or 2? I know there is a big difference in power in my car going from march temps to June temps.... my car goes from roasting the tires on a 2nd gear roll at 40 to barely making a chirp now.

It was cold here the other night and the car was right back to feeling good like in like march/ November so I know theres nothing wrong with it except hot and humid weather. My car feels like it lost 30-40 Whp when it's 90 and humid...... hell 70's and humid suck too.

I talked to Vince about it and here's what he said

Yeah, the warmer weather kills the power on these cars. It’s this time of year that LNF owners start calling me up and asking what happened to their tune
So your not alone .

They did such a long list of things to your car that it is hard to know where to start. So many silly nuisances can arise from putting a car back together. I have seen cable driven cars put back together and the throttle body not open all the way and it felt underpowered, stupid things like that.

I would still recommend your own compression test just to be safe and to get readings from it. You are tuning the car so do you have any logs, AFR, knock or anything else to give us?

Yeah the heat here in TX this whole summer has been killer. I can notice a huge power dif during the day to the night time when its slightly cooler and not as humid.

Vince from Trifecta just shot me an email, apparently my power loss is all heat soak, which like I said earlier is plausible, I havent been home to see a gradual power loss with the rising ambient temperature...I just hope they have E85 in Ft. Riley, KS.....and I guess Ill just get a zzp intercooler and devilsown meth if i continue to have issues.

Yeah he forgot to mention that he had reflashed the tune back after getting the car back from the dealer so I sort of assumed the obvious due to lack of info.... I probably just misunderstood what he was saying

This makes sense. Glad its just summer time heat and not the engine man. I hope to be going to an E blend here soon. This turbo is nice and pulls hard on 93 but I want the timing that E gives me, back.

What BYT said...

I know heat and humidity can make the car feel a little sluggish... But I think maybe you might be a little over sensitive with the feeling?

I'm ordering my ZZP FMIC on the 1st and ill see how that does, I'll be looking into the E85 tune as soon as I get there....assuming they have the fuel...is it possible my car just isn't "broken in" still? I've only ran it about 1200 miles since the rebuild...
