Problem after zzp intercooler sistem install.
Problem after zzp intercooler sistem install.
Hello. This is my first post , since i've just joined this forum. Even that i have hhr ss, the car has the same engine as in cobalt ss. So after i instaled zzp intercooler sistem, i am having some problems now. The difference between outside temp and inlet temp is detting to almost 60°. That is the link to hhr forum where i originally posted about this problem. So if anyone had this problem before or know what is going on, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. http://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/ss-specific-service-issues-repairs-61/problem-after-zzp-intercooler-system-install-58439/
so whats the problem? ur engine runs hot, and ur outside temp is not gonna be close to ur inlet temp, which is measured in the intake manifold. the inlet temp is after the air is through a turbocharger, compressed, and now is being measured in a hot intake manifold. there will be a decent difference in the 2. i wouldn't worry about that. or did u think the intercooler is supposed to make it pretty much the same? doesn't work like that. the intercooler keeps it a lot cooler than it would be without an intercooler that's for sure, but it wont keep it as cool as the outside temps
also there are 2 inlet temp sensors. one is at the maf, one is in the manifold. ur probably looking at the post intercooler sensor by mistake. which is called iat2. look at the iat1 and iat2 temps. iat1 will be close to outside temp, iat2 temp will be a lot higher. as it should be
Where are you viewing the temps at? In an HPTuner or other log or via the RPD? If your IAT1 temp is 60 degrees above the outside temp then something is definitely wrong. Either one of the temperature sensors is wrong or you are getting hot air into your intake somehow. If you are reading IAT2 by mistake then a 60 degree difference is normal. In the post on the other site where you say the coolant temps are lower than they were before, 183 is where my LNF coolant temperature normally sits and anywhere between 180 and 200 is perfectly normal.
Thank you for responding. I guess i will try to describe more clearly. Before i install the sistem the difference between outside temp in inlet temp which is showing on RPD was never more than 1-2°. Right now like i sad the difference is huge, sometimes ut to 60°. It is constantly changing. Wnen i drive it is about 30° difference between outside temp and prd reading. At a traffic lightlt quickly rase to 60 ° difference. I dont have any light on. No check engine light. I apologies for my english. It is not my native language.
If you are setting at a light and it's somewhat warm outside it's gonna be higher due to not moving ambient fresh air through the intercooler like you would be driving down the road.
i understand. But i've never saw such a big difference with stock intercooler and piping. During sumer time with 90°f outside the inlet temp would never go over 92°f, even at traffic light.
If I was ever idling my temps would skyrocket. Double actual outside temp. But fall almost immediately when I start moving.

Only things i instaled was zzp smaller version intercooler and both hot and cold side pipes. Everything else exept for the gm stage kit, which was instaled about year ago without any problems is stock.
It is normal if sitting and idling for a while that the temps will go up since there is no airflow. The reading on the RPD is the IAT1 at the intake. For some reason you are pulling hot air into the intake. Do you have a stock intake? You could have a leak in the intake pulling in hot air from the engine bay. Did you move any of the intake when you were working on the IC? When you were installing the IC perhaps you cracked the intake piping?
I dont see an issue. Car sitting at idle is going to read hot at the IAT1 sensor. My car reads like 50-60*F hotter than IAT2 when I sit at idle. When im moving they are 1-2*F apart. I have a SRI though.
If your driving and that temperature stays like that, id be worried.

I have never seen a setting where you can change where the RPD gets its intake temperature. I know that the reading on my RPD is IAT1 because the scanner IAT1 temperature is the same as the Intake Temp shown on the RPD.
