Question about coolant temp???

So I went out for a cruise tonight and I noticed that my coolant temp was up to 98 degrees celcious went I was on the gas then when I let off it went to 93.... I guess what my question is, is it normal for the temp to go to 98? I was driving on the highway at 110km/h, and it was 3 degrees out....always have the coolant temp on but just never noticed it that high. Now I do have a synapse intercooler. Would that have an effect on the temp?

Thanks in advance

It's high, but within acceptable range for a Cobalt.

Mine runs between 198 - 205* f, pretty close to 98* C. No worries.

Yeah.... The 98 works out to be 208 degrees farenheit... But wheni was at a stop light, it went downto 90-93. Could have been a one time only thing.....I'll keep an eye on it

The way the cobalts are set up then engine temp increases with the heater on beacase the return from the heater core is tapped in right before the thermostat causing the cooler coolant out of the heater core to keep the T-stat closed causing temp to rise.

Mine runs about the same. 92-95c most of the time with a small spike to 98 now and again.

I was concerned at first but being my first turbo engine, I wasn't aware it's normal to run hotter. That's why we have to run synthetic oil that meets GM's heat specs.

On the plus side, this engine never has condensation buildup on the oil filler cap like our 2 previous Ecotecs would during the winter.

I would think it was a little high to be honest... when cruising (even when hot out) mine runs normally 185-192... anything above 200 (even after driving hard) only comes when I'm sitting still...

The heater coolant return line being close to the 'stat makes sense. The colder it gets outside the higher my coolant temps run on the freeway.

In the winter my temp stay around 160-175F...outside temps ranging from -30F - +25F

once it gets around +30F outside my temps go back to normal range for my car...185F - 200F

ours cars have a 181 degree F t-stat I would suggest replacing yours to get yours back to normal temps.
