first its a parking brake, second the pads are probably worn down and third you should be putting your car in gear when you park and it wont move

i.e. if your car can roll backwards put it in 1st, if it can roll forward put it in reverse..there problem solved

take the rear cup holder and the plastic cover around the ebrake off and ull see a bolt w.like an 11mm nut i believe on it. tightening that will tighten ull brake. also where rear cup holder is u can see a bracket that has 3 cables. 2 going to the rear brakes 1 to the handle. make sure the are still in place

Back up, make a few solid stops in reverse. Maybe 10. You need to let the self adjusting calipers come out a bit before tightening the parking brake cables otherwise the e brake will drag.

Not sure how living in florida makes a difference... and CLEARLY you live on a hill and you SHOULD always park in gear..this proves why..ebrakes on cobalts are known to fail for no reason, if parked in gear it wont roll. I suggest you get used to parking in gear

Truth! Always park in 1st or reverse in a manual transmission car. Even if you cannot see a hill there still might be one. My garage looks level but if I put my car in neutral it will roll.

i dont live on a hill... the driveway has a little bend... thats why it rolls... never had problems with it till just now... i got used to leaving it with out gear cuz on my older car i had a remote start controller so if i had it on gear i would break **** up lol... im used to it

what does one car have to do with another. heres your options park the car in gear or come outside in the morning and your ***** down the street. doesnt matter how tight your PARKING BRAKE is it will wear with time and use because its suppose to so this thread has become completely pointless now. you asked for info we gave it and now your trying to dispute the info because of some previous make car that has 0 to do with the car you have now.

im not disputing any info... its just that your first post was POINTLESS regarding this thread because i asked how to fix the E-brake, not what to do when my e-break went...

alsomy if you READ you would know why im bringing my other car into the thread... i said that im used to not leaving it on gear because my other car had the remote start on it and never left it on gear just in case i wanted to turn my car on...

there was only 1 post on this thread that actually helped...

u do know parking ur car in gear is hard on the gear right? the whole waight of the car is resting on that gear. thats a stupid thing to do, i dont know why people do it or think its ok

Um no it is not numb nuts. As long as you put your parking brake on while the clutch is in or the car is in neutral then put the car in a gear it is not resting on a gear unless the brake gives out.

Also it is spelled weight not "waight" and that's or that is not "thats", oh and don't is a contraction not "dont".

Um a question then... Is it bad for me to drive then because that same gear pulls my car up a hill when the engine is on. There isn't anywhere near the stress put on the trans when its parked, compared to say a drag launch, or even getting on the freeway. It won't hurt a trans to put it in gear when you park. GM says to do it and always use the parking brake. I think you may be referring to an automatic trans in which park can fail due to not using the brake on steep hills.

Cardelino, If you haven't already, lube the caliper pins when you have the wheel off. It doesn't take much longer to do, there are plenty of threads about it. This will solve the premature brake wear on the rear pads and rotors which might help in the future with you parking brake. Just a suggestion, I did mine pretty much as soon as I got it after all the threads on here about them.

It's brake not break. It's not that hard.

What does brake boosting have to do with your parking brake anyways. Don't tell me you were using it while you had your foot on the gas.

What do you think happens when you stick your foot on the gas with the car in gear?
