Question about stock LSD

The closest 2009 SS Cobalt with LSD around me is 50 miles away, and I don't feel like driving that far. There is a closer one but it doesnt have LSD. Is it possible to have the LSD installed on the car at the dealer? If so, will it be so expensive that I'd be better off driving the 50miles?

It would be expensive yes. Drive the 50 miles....no question about it. LSD is definitely something you need/want, but it would be way to expensive to upgrade to it. Especially when you can get one with it.

Yeah either drive or wait until you can find what you want.

i drive 50miles to work everyday. lol. if you want it, go drive and get it. seems pretty lazy to not want to drive that far for a car. thats alot easier than paying to have someone install it after you buy a non-lsd car. and i would say that its worth it to have lsd

I drove 40 and it was totally worth the drive. 40-50 minutes is worth the effort to get the car you want. Sorry the color isn't perfect. Hell I got yellow, but it had all the options i wanted and was cheaper

honestly unless your doing heavy cornering LSD is not needed. If your going str8 line racing dont worry about LSD. grab the black car.

you know you dont have to go to the dealer to buy it. Go to a local dealer you really like and is willing to help and they will trade that dealer for one of there cars. That way you dont have to drive and you build a relationchip with a dealer closer to you.

you are correct in a sense but at the same time, if you bought this car for straight line racing, you probably didnt make the best choice. there is so much more that this car has to offer and its the handling that is just as desirable as the motor. so in saying that, why not spring for the option that makes it handle even better. plus, the fact that hes talking about buying a non-lsd car and having it installed shows that he wants the option, hes just to lazy to drive 50mins to get it. lol

Heck I didnt even think of that... back in May when I bought my car here in Mass., there were only 2 SS/TCs in the state, so I had to drive about an hour to get mine. ...Luckily it had LSD, sunroof, and was the color I wanted . To get to the point....like I said above, go get it!!

The LSD that comes with these cars is made by Quaife. Last I recall, its only a 495$ option to get the LSD with the car. If you were to buy the Quaife on its own, it will cost between 975-1200 for the LSD alone + the labor to install it (another 750-1250).... you are better off getting a car with the LSD

I second this my dealers (yes more than one) all looked for one with in 1000 miles and would have brought it to the dealership. In my case there were no white ones within said 1000 miles.

You just need to go to the dealer that will get it to you the cheapest.

if white was out when i bought mine i would have drove 250 miles for it.. for 1000 you can get a quiafe lsd.. lifetime warranty even if you race. i had one installed on my civic. the labor was only $350. i think 750-1000 for labor = rip off.

I drove about 400 miles to get mine. (Live in Long Beach, ny and got the car up in Watertown, NY) Everything I wanted in it too. And a great price, 16,995 with 85 miles on it So it would def. be worth it to drive a lil bit to get it. But if you live where it snows then you def. need it!

LSD is a must for me. I love taking the turns hard and fast. I used to have an 06 LS Cobalt and I had the one wheel peel with that thing, so i couldn't even imagine how bad it would be on the new SS. Yeah, I'll just end up going the 50 miles to get it.

Color is one reason to pick one car over another, but being inconvenienced to drive a whopping 50 miles. Sheesh!

To do a clutch job on a civic @ a shop it will cost you MUCH less than having one done on a Cobalt. (I used clutch job as an example since the transmission needs to come out anyway)

I think on a civic it pays 3.4 hours on a clutch job where on a cobalt its something like 8-9 hours if I recall correctly... (could be wrong, but its somewere high up there)

Civic Trans is MUCH easier to work on than the F35 trans of a Cobalt. Also, you will need to buy 2 new bearings from GM for the F35 which runs about 100$ or so if I recall correctly.

Moral of the story is even if you need to drive 500 miles to find a car with a LSD, I think its WELL worth it vs having to buy a LSD and getting it installed (plus its all under warranty anyway)

First time that LSD kicked in....WOW. It's worth it. Plus, I wanted black too and got victory red. Ladies like red much better.
