Questions about a California Emissions Car
Questions about a California Emissions Car
Good morning,
As some of you may know I bought a used 2009 Cobalt SS a few months back. I have a friend at the dealer who has been looking up parts for me. He found two. One is the GMS1 of course and the other is an intake kit. I said it must be for the S/C Cobalt and he said no because he did a search with my vin number. Once he went to order the intake he found out my car was originally built for California standards and the intake wont fit. He cant return it if he buys it but after reading the tech article, he said it wouldnt fit some parts. I didnt ask for specifcs sorry.
Does anyone know what differences the California cars may have? Im worried there will be issues with the GMS1 kit...
Thanks for the help!

you have nothing to worry about the GMS1. The GMS1 is CARB Certified, there is a sticker that comes in the box stating that proof that would be placed underneath the hood. I have the GMS1 myself and know this. The intake is in question.

I've never heard of a CARB Cobalt, not once in these forums and so far your worried over nothing. Otherwise, you would hear thousands of pop up forums stating "do you have a CARB Cobalt? No such thing exists.
only cobalt i've ever heard of being modified to meet CARB standards was the 2.2 with the SAI. haven't heard of any LNF's being modified for california at all like the others have stated
There were 150 some of 1675 made were California emission cars in just the ss/tc coupe 08 models alone. My cars vin is an 08 punch in a 09 and see how many cal emission cars were made?

Yes it is pretty interesting to see how many cars have what options and this site has all the cars made in Canada also. Must be the hose the guy was talking about maybe the stock intake box is slightly different because of it? I was wrong it was 150 Cal emission cars not 490 of the 1675 08 TC's made 490 was how many had a different option. And 358 had no g85 axles, Anyway when people were saying there were no cali emission cars I knew I had seen that option when the build searches were going on. This site is better than the others like gm tuner only showed USA purchased cars so some think there are fewer made than really were built.

I dont know about the cobalts.. but my 09 GTI was a CBFA engine code which mean it was a california car, it had 3 o2 sensors in the downpipe and an extra intake breather line for the intake. It was a different type and different parts HAD to be ordered in order to fit. Hopefully this isnt the case with this car but it could be...
[QUOTE=jmesl8er;5634052]It's not Cali car then. SAI system was specifically made for Cali's strict emissions laws. There's like 20 threads about this, with pics. Do a search before you start talking out your *#@[/QUOTE , vin numbers and rpo codes dont lie .
Mine had the Cali emissions thing look at the 11th line
Car was no different than any other
