Resonator Recommendations

After just recently installing a catless DP, I've come to the realization that its just too loud for me for every day driving. The previous owner had both the resonator and muffler removed from the stock exhaust so I'm looking to add a resonator.

I was looking at the Magnaflow resonators and came a cross this one...

MagnaFlow Exhaust Products - For Trucks, Suv's, American Muscle, Diesel, & Sport Compact Vehicles

You can see them all here... MagnaFlow Exhaust Products - For Trucks, Suv's, American Muscle, Diesel, & Sport Compact Vehicles

Anyone have any first hand experience with their resonators? Can I fit a 6" resonator under my car? Do I need to get a smaller size? I want this thing 50% quieter than it is currently. I found some pretty good prices on Amazon.

Magnaflow, Stainless Steel Works, or Borla resonators are all good, and you can't really go wrong. As far as sizing, I'm not sure. Probably easier if you get someone to measure the stock resonator. I'd be a little surprised if a resonator alone will do the trick. Honestly, it may be easier to just get an aftermarket exhaust that has a resonator and muffler.

Thanks for your response. Some of the reading and YouTube before/after watching I've done suggests that a nice large resonator should do what I'm looking to do. I don't want it silent by any means, just want some of the edge taken off. It's a tad obnoxious.

I guess it depends on your tolerance level. I'm tired of overly noisy cars. A downpipe + 3" resonated and muffled exhaust sounds great on this car, IMO, and does not introduce obnoxious drone in the car.

Ive seen quite a few Magnacrap resonators rattle into pieces, I wouldn't recommend one. A resonator will make the car slightly quieter but mainly a smoother sound, a muffler will make it quieter still. Ive used the Vibrant ones and haven't had trouble yet (knock on wood). They are pretty inexpensive resonators!

Hmmmm. Okay. Well I guess I'll start out with the res and then go from there. I really enjoyed the sound level/quality of the res/muffler delete with stock DP. It was perfect for me so Im just looking to get back to that.

Thanks for your input. This isn't the first time I've read this about the the Magnaflow products. most seem to say they are okay but there have been a few to agree with your comment.

I didn't even know Vibrant made resonators. Ill have a look-see. Thanks.

Vibrant sells a 12" and 18" long one. if it's on the stock catback you will need a 2.5" piping version.

Flowmaster Hushpower II's are compact and cut noise pretty good. Depending where you look for them they are listed as both resonaters or mufflers. They are a tad $$ though.

Would you recommend the Ultra Quiet ones or the regular ones that Vibrant makes? I can't tell if the Ultra Quiet ones would even fit. They look kinda wide.

Good thread. More input please.
Im also interesyed.in a resenator.
Any gpod.three inch piping,.cat back,.with nice smooth sounding resenator, without muffler?
Id like it to sound smooth, not really abnouxiously loud, but not the muffled drown of a muffler.

Any good recomendations?

How was the sound inside the car? After some more reading some people are saying the drone gets worse inside the car. I'd like to avoid that. Wondering if that's common to a certain type or size of resonator...

Im using a 18 inch magnaflow 5" diameter i think but 2.5 inch outlet. with a straight thru muffler.

i get quite a bit of droning at 4k rpms.
my whole cat back is custom so quality might not be the best which may increase the droning. Also a straight thru muffler increases droning too, so if you have a straight thru then its gonna drone.

IMO.. the one of the best sounding exhaust system is the HAHN cat-back system, everybody who's heard my exhaust or other .net members - knows it's sound nice n sweet.. not to loud or the crazy garbles sound.. I can hear the sweet turbo in the exhaust note..

The drone is low but not as loud as you would think.. I got it in 09 - $699, but now HAHN sells it for $566 on there site, I'm not sure if TTR is still selling them anymore, when they sold it to me.. Polished stainless steel still shines, 2.8 years later.. from the 3bolt down to the exhaust tip..

Thanks but I'm looking for info on resonators not exhaust systems in their entirety.
