Second Gear

I just picked up a SS/TC a couple weeks ago. If I'm in second gear and let off the gas, the car starts to almost buck. It feels like it's trying to engine brake on and off. Does anybody else have this on theirs? I remember reading something about an issue in second gear, but I can't remember exactly what it was. My buddy's Evo does something similar, but he said it was normal, so it may be nothing. Thanks.

Is that against the rules?

If you don't like the slight "bucking" sensation then I wouldn't do it. My car does it, I just don't let my foot off the gas for too long.

I don't mind it. It's kinda fun. I just remember reading something about a timing problem that was happening to somebody in second gear and just wanted to check.

I don't think that's what they're talking about. Some cars completely come out of 2nd gear, and in my car 1800 miles later haven't had that problem. Only weird thing is SOMETIMES when I'm stopped at a light it won't go in first, I have to put it in 2nd then go down to first. But this has only happened about 10 times since I've had it. And once while I was in motion going from 2nd to 3rd it just wouldn't go into third the first time...very strange but it hasn't done that since.

the not being able to get into a gear isn't uncommon, happens with a lot of manual cars I've driven

As is the "bucking" sensation. Best way to get rid of that is to get an automatic.

Anytime you just let off the gas abruptly its going to buck. I wouldnt say "it's fun" those jolts and shocks to the drivetrain cant be good. Ease off the gas.

It's even more fun when you can get your foot to JUST the right position where the bucking makes you tap the gas, makes for a good few seconds of amusement followed by two weeks of "I wonder if that broke something?!"

The "won't go into 1st" thing started happening to me a couple of months ago (I only have 10k on the car now).

But unless I hear/see anything different or something changes, I just ignore it.

The "2nd to 3rd" thing hasn't happened to me yet though ...

it has nothing to do with how long your foot is off the gas. there's no problem with having your foot off the gas in 2nd either. it's a great way to save gas, and increase your mpg's.

the "bucking" you're feeling is your injectors shutting off... it's safe, puts no strain on the drive train, and saves gas. deceleration fuel cut off.
