Hmm, did you turn it off and see if it's still showing when you start her back up?

What does a NLS have to do with ESC. Take it in, they won't void your warranty.

how fast were you going when you dropped it int 2nd? If you were going over 50 mph being on freeway you likely were. That's nasty hard on the drive train I would expect a cel of some sort doin that.

I know you posted it said service esc could it have possibly said esc active? if it was active it was just a notification that the Electronic Stability Control had kicked in and yes even in competitive mode the esc is still on (looser perameters for more aggressive driving). To totally turn the esc off depress and hold the traction button for 5 secs. the dic will read "esc off"

I have the same issue. It's completely random. It resets when the car is restarted as well.
I called onstar while it was happening and they didn't tell me anything the DIC didn't tell me already.

I'm just waiting until I happen to be free when it happens (not on my way to work) and take it to them while it's active. It was in there once and they made an attempt to correct it although it wasn't actively doing it for them.
I have also noticed on mine that once it happens the cruise control also stops working.
If I get an answer before you do I'll post back up. Otherwise, PLEASE post up what you find.

Oh btw... I'm tuned. They scanned the car for codes (my airbags were also shutting off) and they never found out about the tune. I wouldn't worry about it.

it coulld have been a ABS sensor messed up, i know that GM made the ABS sensor a part of the wheel bearing on some models but not sure if they did on these, (havent looked that closely) but if it did you could have stressed the wheel bearing to the point that the sensor could not read and then it disables sability control till it can read again

I had the "service esc" pop-up on the DIC a few times, but only on snowy or icy roads. Mine did it when both the mechanical lsd and the brake activated lsd failed to prevent a "one wheel peel" and the car detected a difference in front wheel speed that is too high and for too long. That could lead to differential damage and this is why that message will appear. If you did that on asphalt, I guess that your car don't have the lsd and you were one wheel peeling like a champ trying to impress that hot chick in the wrx.
