So I ordered my TUNE...

I ordered my trifecta tune, selectable 24psi.

Questions are, I want to bulletproof my engine for this tune. Anyone know what pistons or enternal engine mods are available to do this? This is something I plan to buy around christmas for myself and install next summer.

See..its november here, and usually there is a bunch of snow. I dont have winter tires yet for my cobalt, and I need them bad... but anyways I ordered my trifecta tune instead becuase my civic already has winters

Im deff going to be doing some pulls when I get the tune all installed in my car (assuming its not snowing)

So my questions are, on a %100 bone stock cobalt. A 24psi psi in small pulls should be fairly safe?

i think you kinda went around this ass backwards man. You should build the motor THEN tune for it. Why would you build a motor to fit a tune built for stock parts?

you should be fine the tune is selectable and its not like you will be driving around town WOT 24/7 if you need tires like me then the one thing you will notice is you will spin like crazy so be prepared

if your plans are to push 350whp the is no need to be building ur motor... now if you would like to go over 400whp it would be safe if you do... for a 24psi tune, you will be fine and no need to build it... just tune it, get bolt ons and re-tune...u should be fine

My goal @ 24 psi on my stock cobalt would be 285hp/310tq ish to the wheels up from 245/255 ish? I don't ever plan to do exhaust, intake or anything else but the tune. I actually have a few mods done to quiet up the engine bay. But id like to be able to beat up on my car next summer. So im cool with dropping $1000 on a ACTUAL supporting mod for the tune. I dont consider new wheels or breaks.. or a IC or exhaust really a supporting mod. I like my car quiet and reliable and I think thats possible at 24psi. (which is why im asking what might be the single best thing to strengthen my engine for 24psi).

You will def make more than that especially in the torque department, mine did around 344tq @ 22psi with everything stock! Now I have 24psi and a MPx 3" Catless Downpipe and the car pulls way stronger compare to my 22psi tune. You'll be fine just change the oil when you are supposed to! and check your spark plugs once in a while! and you are set!

24psi is kind of pushing the reliablity of the car... if i were u i would do 22-23psi and do a downpipe and charge pipes to make the turbo spool faster and to take out thos POS plastic pipes.... after that then you should see 300ish whp/350-375wtq...

I've been running a 22psi HPTUNE for almost 17k miles without any issues...

your motor will be fine at 24psi as long as you aren't stupid with it...

Like I said I really dont intend to do any bolt ons with this car, making it louder isnt my goal.. granted you could probably increase HP without doing so.. but most of the aftermarket doesnt cater to that.

I was thinking of engine enternals (if needed), and thats it.

Keep in mind guys.

I have about 6 months of summer weather if im lucky and of those six months il only have the tune selected when im planning to go for a cruze (so maybe %10 of the time Im driving).

So yeah, I dont intend to really bring this thing to the track.

When I hear of people with engine damage and whatnot, and they are tuned, it's almost always the case that they are tuned beyond 22psi. I'll be stopping at 22psi when I get my tune, and I'll be happy with it. Something about 23 and 24 (or more!) seems to attract problems/major issues.

This is all anecdotal, but hey, it's my two cents.

so how do the advertise turbo kit doing 360-460hp on the stock engine? ... your saying there is %100 chance they will blow? i think i have misunderstood turbo pressure

i am here for knowledge so is 23psi tube just 1 notch safer?

The kits just flow more cfm at the same or lower boost pressure.

As for things to strengthen your engine, rods & pistons.

I'd do charge pipes and an aftermarket IC. More efficient cooling never hurt anyone.

so its accepted that 22 is the best fit? (like I think thats the most my LCD screen can display..not sure though). And when you go over that into the 24PSI range is where you need to start logging and tweaking?

I was set on 24, and everything I read online says it still should be more or less rock solid. Im probably going to go for the 22 and see how that is. The next smartest thing would probably be a turbo upgrade, and thatil be in at least 15 months.

the turbo is at its rated limits with GMS1 IIRC and anything over 22lbs seems to just make hot air and probably causes knock... plus 75hp per cylinder is getting pretty feisty... tunes need to be closer to spot on with the more power you make...

If you get trifecta pay very close attention to your afrs... they tend to be very rich which cause as much problems as anything else does.
