Southbend Clutch Vs. ZZP Vs. KY
Through all the research I have done, I am deciding between the 3 brands above. The first question I have is what is the difference between a clutch that I get directly from Southbend/DxD and the ZZP offering? I have read Southbend makes them for ZZP, and they are quite a bit cheaper than the ZZP, so what is the difference?
Southbend recommended their clutch that holds up to about 400ft lbs. Right now I am just Trifecta tuned with basic bolt ons, but I do want more power in the future, probably the ZZP EFR. I assume I would need more than holding to 400ft lbs for that. Should I buy for the power I have, or the power I want?
Finally, how does the KY compare to the above 2? I know people always like to argue that they are just as good and cheaper, but if you take into account the Southbend, they lost their money advantage there.

KY clutch holding up just fine so far 2k miles. Being a 6 puck, engagement takes a while to get used to. Slipping this clutch was an exercise in madness. I've always been a 'slipper', and It was hard for me to change ways after 22 years. Now that I'm used to it, I kinda prefer it. Just let the damn thing out and the car always goes, no gas needed.

I understand there are many opinions on clutches here, but I think I can safely narrow it down to the 3 options I listed. I think with any more options I would drive myself nuts!
Does anyone know the difference between a Southbend and ZZP?

Subscribed. I don't know what clutch is in my car now, but if I hit 2nd hard on dry pavement she slips so my research has begun.
I had a Spec stage III in my 2.4 / 5 speed turbo grand am. I loved it... was kinda like an on off switch though.

I'll say this, I worked on a customers car that came in with a southbend clutch. The reason he came to me was no clutch. I took the clutch out and the friction disc was froze to the actual pressure plate. So I hammered that bitch off. Lol. The ky clutch has been tested mainly on my car. I thingmk I've done 6 setups and the next is a twin disc setup. Specs are good and is recommend them more then I would clutchmasters. Spec uses known pressure plates as does clutchmasters but spec uses better materials with they're friction disc. It's all about preferences really. Ky clutch new revised pressure plate !nd friction disc hold up on my 30lbs, ad someone has dynoed 447ft lbs already and let me know. I forgot his name here and I hope he comes in. But in all honesty they are good for a certain criteria and all make there clutches in these.criterias ... So it all depends on pocket money and your honest to god wants.
Spec is by far out of all the known name brands best for the balt I feel. But power wise make sure to order the correct one.
Get with ttr for the specs.

I've personally never heard of south bend clutches prior to reading about zzp being made by them. I was going back and forth between the ZZP Stage 4 and Exedy Hyper Single and I just recieved my Exedy. I've read nothing good about the KY in my research and the Spec is only okay if you get a plus clutch and then you have to have the flywheel dowel holes enlarged too. I figured for under 1100 i can get a light flywheel and clutch that holds whatever i throw at it.

If anybody wants to go the Spec 3+ route, I've got one, fresh, still in the package.

These clutch discussions are getting out of hand
Everytime I make up my mind, I read more reviews of other **** and it gets me thinking again.
I had decided on the KY but I am SUPER nervous that it's going to be too harsh and I'm going to hate it......
UGH!

Iirc zzp tested the clutches from southbend till they got it "right' and got southbend to produce the clutches for them at their specs. Imo they did a great job with that clutch. You guys really need to drive a balt with a zzp s4 and feel for yourself how stocklike it feels.
