Spec Stage 2+ Clutch & Lightweight Flywheel

The clutch and flywheel have arrived for my DD. Rated 437 ft/lbs, should be enough since the stocker is slipping pretty bad now at 32k miles since tuned.

The lightweight flywheel has a replaceable steel plate that mates with the clutch disc. Quality is very nice.

I went with the Stage 2+ to retain the daily drivability, I hope I'm not disappointed. Still waiting for the new throw out bearing/hyd assy to ship from GM. Not on backorder, but still no delivery. It was ordered on Feb. 5th.

A local ASE certified shop is going to do the install for me in the near future.

Thanks to Aaron at TTR and Jeremy at Spec for helping me get this sorted out!

Pics below...

I'll update this thread after I get it installed, broken in & when I flog it.

I was thinking of getting the Stage 3+ but since it's a DD, I was afraid it would get too hard on my bad knee when I am stuck in stop & go traffic. The Stage 2+ should handle the ~380 wtq of my tune anyway.

For every piece of equipment available, there are good reviews and bad. You pay your $$$ and take your chances. Such is life.

at the time 309whp/321torque. s/c and nitrous. they claimed there kits are rated crank hp not whp when i talked to spec over the phone. sent them pic's they said it was toasted at 1,600 miles. the guy over the phone even said go with a different company. i think his name was john. talked to rsx guys they said spec is garbage. myself i know what happens and my friend bought one and same thing happened after like 8k miles it was slipping. you can say user error but on mine i broke it in properly got the flywheel re-surfaced did the whole nine and TOB. junk. i have video's but not on this computer.

i went with a custom clutch after in new jersey

Sounds to me like a bad driver. Clutches are underated for the reason if it says it will hold 400, they know people are going to put 425 on it. So seeing a clutch that is slipping at under what they are said to hold is either bad install or bad driver

X2 the reviews on the 2+ and 3+ have always been great, those with the non "+" series do have issues, as they are a "puck" disc and cannot hold the power.

Also there is no "John" at SPEC, and they would never state go to another company, they are always more than willing to work with you and help you. Just as they did for the OP. Jeremy and David are the two guys there that know their stuff.

Clutches are rated for torque, not HP. What car was it in? If it wasn't a Cobalt LNF, then it's not relevant. I'm not going to debate apples and oranges. I'll post what I find with mine.

Are you a troll? Thanks for sharing.

my new SPEC 2+ and SPEC aluminum Flywheel are in the acar and its back on the road.. VERY GRABBY,,. i was so used to no back pressure that i stalled 3 times just getting out of the dealer.. very nice clutch and flywheel i feel a lil better acceleration due to what i think is the lightweight of the flywheel. i love it....

You mean the twin disc?

Been in the works for 2 years now, it will sell for around 1600-1800 at best guess.

Not sure if they will get it done...

Yes, or more, and it is around $1000 for the kit...

The SPEC Stage 2+, 3+ or exedy hyper single are all good choices IMO.

What flywheel did "broke" purchase with the spec2+? This is based off of my assumption he ordered both from you!

So, the Spec 2+ doesn't work with the stock flywheel, or Broke just wanted a lightweight one?

Clutch - SPEC Stage2+ : SPEC SC073H-3

Flywheel : SPEC SC07A-3 Listed on the TTR site for the '08 HHR SS LNF

You have to have 3 holes drilled out to 12mm on the stock flywheel to use it. The dowel pins on the spec are larger. I opted for the matching flywheel.

If you specify that you want it for the stocker, they include the dowel pins. I was going that route initially and changed my mind. Called SPEC and found out the discs are the same in our case so it was no problem. Jeremy from SPEC informed me in most cases the discs would be different on other applications.

I'm assuming that this flywheel should work with the Spec 3+ just fine as well... I've been thinking about going with the Spec flywheel in addition to my 3+ I have on hand now that I've heard about the need to drill the stock flywheel.

Would a 3+ and Spec flywheel combo be comparable to an Exedy Hypersingle? The 3+ supposedly holds quite a bit more torque than the Hypersingle, but I'm wondering about real-world experiences with running it versus the Hypersingle.
