As long as you aren't trying to slip the clutch excessively to get the car moving from a dead stop, then no.

Performance clutches, puck style in particular, DO NOT like excessive heat (slippage). Don't get me wrong, some MFGs use materials to help dissipate heat much more quickly but that doesn't mean you can treat it like you can the stocker.

So when you get the clutch installed, while taking off from a stop, you will want to rev the car up some and just engage the clutch. It's either on or off.

Would a 3+ and Spec flywheel combo be comparable to an Exedy Hypersingle? The 3+ supposedly holds quite a bit more torque than the Hypersingle, but I'm wondering about real-world experiences with running it versus the Hypersingle.
SPEC shows the options for the SS/TC on their website. They all mate to the one lightweight aluminum flywheel with a steel wear surface that is replaceable. The torque ratings are all there too.

The ones for the SS/TC all end with a -3 where the SS/SC end in a -2 IIRC.

I don't remember the rating of the Exedy Hypersingle.

How many miles on your car. If your less than like 20000 I would just use the stock ones and not replace them.

32K, going to replace it while it's apart. Another week won't matter.

Updating the install...

Baby is still in the shop. Closest tranny fluid is 90 miles away. Kudos to the shop for replacing it, even if it costs me a day. They sent a runner to get it.

Baby's back!

The service writer must have done the check out drive, he was grinning from ear to ear when I picked her up.

Clutch feel is a wee bit stiffer than stock and the moment is a bit different. I killed it letting the clutch out the first time. Def accelerates faster with the lightweight flywheel and while I'm trying to take it easy breaking it in I can report that there was no slip in third when I hit it. :

So far a great big thumbs up for the SPEC Stage 2+ and lightweight flywheel.

Many thanks to everyone at TTR!
FWIW, the tranny fluid was ~$35 a quart, make sure it's available first if you have yours done.

I'll update this after a few weeks to let everyone know how it's working out.

Drove it 40 miles this morning already, it's a bit stiffer than the stocker to push in but nothing too bad for this old guy. Engages smooth, a bit closer to the floor than the stock clutch did. Drivability is fine.
No chatter at all.

Many thanks to everyone at TTR and Dave's Automotive of Valparaiso, IN. Especially Dan for working with me on this and seeing I got a first rate install!

Awesome, makes me want a clutch now. I bet it is faster now that it can actually put all 400+ ft/lbs of torque down, assuming it actually hooks up.

I like clutches that actually start to engage in the middle of the pedal's travel. The worst I have driven is the Viper. It is god awful heavy and does not engage until it is all the way up. Couple that with a 1st gear that is geared like most cars in 2nd and you have a very difficult and irritating to drive car.

The hypersingle i just recently got installed engages about half way up. It likes to chatter a bit but i rev the car to about 1500 and start releasing the clutch and its a smooth take off.

I was on the fence between the spec and exedy and chose to go with exedy

I can still take off at 1000 rpm ok, don't have to rev it, but if it gets under 1000 rpm with the light flywheel you can tell it'll stall easier. I did not get the lightweight clutch option, just the flywheel.

I was looking at the hypersingle pair and initially thought I would keep the stock flywheel, that's why I started looking at the SPEC. Once I found out I had to have the stock FW drilled for the dowel pins I said f'it and got the SPEC flywheel too. I think they are within $50 of each other as a pair.

Raise the DALs 4-5% especially at less than 2K RPMs. That will help.

This is great stuff!

How much did it cost from TTR, and how much did it cost to get it installed?

You can add it to your cart at TTR and make sure but with the sig discount the clutch and flywheel were around a grand, I bought them seperately so I forget.

Install was $800 with an all wheel alignment added in.

Yeah, if I thought I could have done it myself I might have took a shot at it. It's done and working well.

Spent some of my tax return on it. I hate having others work on my stuff.

Reputable local ASE certified shop. Didn't want Billy Bob & Bubba doing mine out back.
