stage 1 cams

hey guys i did my research and not getting what i need... i put the stage 1 cams in my lnf after i had to replace the head, rockers and lash adjusters... im going to give you the mods on the car first... 3 bar map sensors,3in catless dp with 3 in straightpipe, short ram intake, intercooler with new piping, boosting 23 pounds... took on dyno and made 309 on pump and 318 with e85 mix... tuning is done by byt. he said cams are worthless. said the larger fuel pump lobe is working but nothing else... i have his old car now and he showed me his dyno numbers with stock cams and alittle less then i have done and he had 349 on e85... so with cams and all work done with e85 i was looking for around 350-360.... there a special way to install cams? do you put these in time just like the stock ones are marked? reason im asking these question bc idk if you have to advance the timing on these by teeth like retarding the timing or something... this might be only for old school cars lol... just throwing things out there. i have these cams in time the same way the stock ones are suppose to be by the haynes manual... car starts and runs great but the he was saying it should be alot more.

The cams on full e should net you around 350whp, major factor is your tune.

You should have stuck with stock cams on a stock turbo, IMO--

But really, It all comes down to the tune, he could have been boosting alot more when he put down those numbers, also 93 and 85 is a big difference.

on the stock turbo i think the cams are useless except for the addition of the larger lobe. tuning is the big factor and the car is vvt so you cant really mechanically retard or advance timing or the car wont start or it will throw codes or it is an interference motor and you will do damage.

Bigger Turbo will come later. Reason y I did the Cams is BC my lash adjusters and rockers flew apart on day. Stock Cams were screwed. So I upgraded

Cams with the lobe are still helpful on stock turbo atleast running full e, but should be more of an investment for a more capable setup

I'm gunna take it apart and check timing. I might of installed Cams 180 out. Didn't realize I had to have cylinder 1 at tdc on compression stroke. I just put it at tdc. This could be installer error lol

if you put #1 at tdc then compression stoke is decided by cam placement so if you put dowl pins at 5 and 7 o'clock then its correct and if its not throwing a correlation code then I would look at the tune

if its a 180 degrees out the car wont fire. it will crank and sound like its backfiring if its that car off. ive only seen them fire one or 2 teeth off and like it was stated above instantly it throws a correlation code.

these cars are vvt and you cannot advance or retard the timing by jumping the teeth and the cam gears themselves to my knowledge are not adjustable.

chances are somethings off in the tune if you havent changed it since your camshaft installation or you have something else contributing to the loss of power.

Fyi- you might also run into timing chain durability issues with the 78lb springs, just giving you a heads up.

the chain is going to stretch even on stock stuff it has to that's why you have a tensioner to take up the slack

Its very possible to hop a tooth or. When setting the tensioner. Just a future tip rotate your motorby hand next time you do a timing service to verify its out of time

If its an OEM gasket they are far from junk. We run those things over 400whp all day long
