i used the new head bolts that came with kit and i did it by the book... car was running under 190 so it wasnt overheating just incase someone wants to try and say that

if its not squeaky clean sometimes you can have problems ive also seen copper spray cause problems also but there is nothing wrong with stock bolts and hg but sometimes **** just happens

OK well that's what I used. **** does happen. Must be a faulty gasket. Gunna get another and some more parts over winter. Don't feel like messing with it now

I'm thinking about building my head with Cams and all soon and possibly getting a ZFR in the near future. was upgrading the head worth it? I'll be on the stock turbo for a little bit I think.

Yea it was worth it just make sure you get a good head gasket LOL. Mine didn't like the abuse

Sounds like it was a faulty gasket if you did it 100% by the book or something was done inccorrectly. I track my car and dd it putting at minimum 70 miles a day on it and i drive it hard too. Still on the stock head gasket. My last cobalt made over 400whp and had a stock head gasket they aren't junk.

1st says i didnt release the tensioner, then swears he torqued the head bolts correct? im not buying it lol only headgaskets i seen fail with in a few days are from installer error. put a new gasket on it and see what it does i bet it blows again something is wrong was the head checked to see if the deck was straight? what did u clean the block surface with?

i took it apart and its not the head gasket... number 2 piston melted and broke... putting car back to stock and taking it to dealer
