Stage 1 questions.
Stage 1 questions.
So CED has 2 stage 1 LNF kits...
1 is just the sensors with bolts and o-rings.
the second is sensors, stickers and a code for a tune at GM.
My car is way out of warranty so Im not concerned about warranty.
I also used to work at a GM dealer and still have friends that work there.
I asked them about the stage 1 tune and they had never done one before so they couldnt answer my questions.
My questions are;
1. If i buy just the sensors and connectors can I just find the part number for the tune to get my friends at GM to tune it or do i need something worth the extra $400 CED is charging?
2. Since I dont have warranty, can i just install the sensors and get someone to tune it with hp tuners?
I did try the search function but couldnt find what I was looking for.
Thanks in advance.

well the first one u will get the gms1 upgraded ecu tune. its not hard to do if ur friends have never done it. im sure its just plug in car, select tune file and write to ecu.
the second kit is just sensors and adapter pigtails. before u can run those u need to be tuned for them, so u need hp tuners or someone who has it, install sensors and get someone to tune u. so yes u can install sensors and get hp tuned.

the $500 kit doesnt say anything about a plug and play tuner. It says to bring the part number and code to GM and they will tune it.
Thank you for the info, i doubt my buddy will want $400 to tune it for me so i think ill go the hp tuners route.

Hey, thanks for posting CED.
Im slightly confused about the differences.
from what i see they are both plug & play and they would both need a tune.
I think the more expensive kit comes with a code redeemable at a GM dealer for the tune...
but Im basing that on an assumption.
If thats the case how does the GM tech get the gms1 file to put in the car?
Basically I want to know what the difference is that causes the kit to jump up by $250-$300. And how the GM tech gets the tune info.

I think the extra price is for the certificate they give out for it to be legit and not get rid of your warranty and to what I was reading they give you the file as well amd I guess gm just installs it for you, but you said that u are way out of warranty so to what ive seen I think you should just get plug and play sensors and get hp tuned.
both kits are the same except the first one comes with the certificate u take to a gm dealer and they flash the gms1 tune onto ur car. that's why its more expensive, cause ur paying for a tune as well. the second kit u have to get ur own tune.

If you're worried about getting someone reputable to tune your car and whatnot, you could always just pick up the sensors and plug & play kit, and have someone with HP tuners flash just the GMPP file to your car. Then it will be literally like having GM do it, but it'll only cost you $300 ($100 of that is to unlock your car in HP tuners).

Ive got 2 GMS1 hp tuners files from their forum along with a custom tune file (gms1, cai, charge pipes)
1 is stock gms1 (the just in case flash),
The other is a mildly tweeked version made by imbroke (hptuners forum), dont know if he uses the same user name on here. I've been doing a lot of reading on it, and imbroke seems to know his **** very well, so i'm not hesitant to use his file.
