stage 1 rotated mount finally in......
So my day started off at the chevy dealer this morning. The guy who put my gms1 in wanted to check to see if my bpv was 'sticky' as the former code said when I went down to 5 lbs. Boost a month ago. Did a some sort of test with vacuum pressure or something and everything was good. Also the service rep was cool enuff to remind me of the recall on steering motors. They did that as well! And I checked out the new zr1 which was 130 grand!! Onto the mount. My mechanic got me in and had that mount installed in a half hour. He charged me only 20 bucks. He's pretty cool. Anyhow he had car on lift where wheels are hanging free in air (lifted on frame) and he mentioned that he DID NOT have to loosen passenger engine mounts?? He said he just pushed up to line up bolts. And he said that u really DON'T have to tighten down bolts and drive car then retighten bolts to torque specs?? Anyhow car doesn't pull under acceleration although there is a bit of driveline slop but def. Improved.

move forward a bit...shut er down tighten the bolts. The tranny will then *settle* in. With that upper mount tight at the install, the tranny may still be tweaked. BTW...he did install the spacer under the rear mount, right?
stage 1 ottp mount problem.....
I would loosen the three bolts on the upper mount (easy as pie)...run the engine...back up the car a little bit...

those upper passenger engine mount bolts>>>>> where are they located? do i have to jack car up and support anything to loosen, back-up and retighten?? or can i access them without a lift and do it myself?
yes he did the rear spacer

The slop in the mounts is reduced so you have to learn to shift smoother now. Nature of the beast. I notice more tranny noise running next to a jersey wall on the freeway with the window down also.

My stage 2s helped tremendously....
"support motor at the motor trans joint. loosen three bolts at top pass side mount - do not remove the bolts, just loosen. Remove front mount. remove rear mount. Install rear mount. do not tighten completely. install front mount. do not tighten completely. rock motor. tighten lower rear, lower front and then upper top mount to specified torque. you are done."
idk what to do!!! just called the guy that put my stage 1 mount in and he AGAIN stated that you do not have to loosen the engine mounts on passenger side and rock engine and lower car, then drive car forward and backward, jack back up and tighten........ he keeps saying u dont have to.
im trying to think of the relationship between the trans and the engine and that mount and why u need to loosen, drive and retighten. i'm at a loss, but I dont want to bust up my tranny!!! and yes bolts were tightened as follows, through bolt at 74lbs, 2 rear bolts on front mount at 66lbs each, and 3 rear spacer bolts at 44lbs each. my mechanic mentioned that the rear spacer may be causing the jolt in between shifts. but that doesnt seem to make sense.....

After the fact I loosened the top passenger side mount and retorqued it, no harm, no foul. I didn't do it during the install either but it did seem to lessen vibs after I let it reposition itself. Makes sense that since the engine/trans rotated a bit it needs to be realigned.
the more i think about it
It seems to make sense though to loosen motor mount bolts because aren't you lifting trans 10mm or so to line up bolts to housings with the ottp mount? And if tranny is connected to motor then motor has to move with lifted tranny correct? And motor can't move with tranny unless its loosened. Which makes me think how the heck did my mechanic jack up tranny to line bolts up with a tightened engine mount? Yikes, I hope this doesn't screw my tranny.guess I got to loosen motor mount bolts and tranny mount bolts and rock engine, realign then tighten everything down again. This is pissing me off!!

BTW, for $20 you really got a deal. It's at least a 45 Min job...including jacking up car...etc.
Here is a pic of the mount and the bolts. It's right up against the upper PASSENGER side engine bay.
The top part of the pic is the direction of the passenger..the engine is on the right. It's the THREE BOLTS on the right that insert into the engine.
