Stiff Shifter

I will try to explain this as best I can. So bare with me. I know that some of us have had the frozen shifter in the cold winter mornings. Well , obviously it isn't cold/ or winter anymore. And I guess to say that my shifter is frozen isn't really accurate. It's more like it is stiff to return to the netural position. but ONLY if it is in netural. And i push it to the left. It slowly retuns to netural on its on. Where as if I push it to the right. It instantly bounces back freely and with no stiffness at all. However like I say , the return from the left position is much slower and stiffer. It appears to be the cable that is on the left hand side that moves when you look at them through the cup holder opening. But idk if it would actually be a stiff cable. Or something inside the shifter is self causing the problem. I tryed lubracting eveything this morning both at the shifter and at the cables them selves with some fluid film. I also sparyed the linkage outside on top of the tranny as best I could too. I can't really see any improvmnet yet. Unless it just takes some time to work its way in and free what ever is stiff. I just dont know what would cause this. Something in the shifter ? or the cable itself ? Any thoughts ?

Thanks

Replace the shifter cables and check the cable bracket. If they freeze up I'm assuming water has got in there and therefore dirt has also.

Always could check the shifter for lube, get some lithium grease lube, pull the shifter apart following twm's how to

I believe the same spring controls the return on both left to right.

I don't know exactly how much they are. But I bet they Arent cheap. Therefore I could only do the one cable. Which controls the left to right action. Baring it being the cable or shifter. Is there anything else ? It just started yesterday our if the blue. And it hasn't been raining or wet in a few weeks.

Iirc they're about 100 on CED, replacement takes a bit of time.

Go get some lithium grease and try lubing the shifter first

How hard were they to replace ? And how long did it take ? I assume they were like mentioned before and cost aboutb$100 each ?

Def cables for sure. They come as a pair, so you will be replacing both. To confirm this pop the cable out of its holder on the shifter, I'll bet one will move freely, and one you wont be able to budge by hand without a set of vice grips. When mine went bad it was like Russian roulette whether I was going into 1st or 3rd gear. Made for some embarrassing moments. Its not too bad to change, just time consuming. Wear some mechanics gloves, it was like sticking my hands in a box of razer blades!

$104+ shipping for the pair http://www.crateenginedepot.com/LNF-...42584C956.aspx

Crap !! Sounds like fun...nits always something. Gifts pay to play I guess. Well... my up and down cable between say 1st and 2nd or 3rd to 4th is totally fine. Its just the side to side movment of the shifter. And yet. To the right it is totally free. Which is when it pulls the cable out. But to the left it is stiff and slowly returns to the natural pistion on its own. Its so wired . If it was the cable or is. Why isn't it stiff on both right and left. ??
