Stock clutch and E

So basically I want more power. I'm fully bolted and next logical step to me would be trying an E tune. Mostly from what I've seen and or read the stock clutch won't hold the power an E tune can put out. However I've also read posts on here of people who are running E or a slightly larger turbo and had no slip or failure. I've had zero slip on my 93 tune. Is the only way to find out by trying? Are stock clutch people just running a conservative tune on E or they just have a freak of a clutch? Would a 20 psi E tune provide more power than a 24 psi 93 tune?
Also I'd love to hear comparisons between the two tunes from people who have tried both.
Last question once a clutch slips is it condemned or can you just back it off a bit to prevent failure. Ive always thought once it's glazed it's done.

I have a 93 oct tune and my car is making 284/316 @ ~22psi (tends to get to 24 psi) at the wheels. Never had any slip.

If you have a competent tuner who can tone down the mid-range sledgehammer from the little K04, then your stock clutch will be just fine.

My previous Sedan was running 340+ whp / 350+ wtq with an E tune (conservative with regard to other E tunes), DP and ZZP intake tube with no issues.

^Just like this man said. I had the 22 psi E85 tune and had no clutch slip, but when I switched to E47 and went up to 24 psi, I had slip in 3rd and 4th gears. My tuner had to cut down the mid-range torque with a waste-gate duty cycle correction and lower boost down to around 21 psi. I like making good power with lower boost, so I am very happy with it. It's not some kind of street-killer, but it's fun to drive and much more spry than the gas tune. If it was my daily-driver, I would go back to gas, though. Too much trouble to keep returning to one gas pump on a daily-driver.

Is anyone running a e47 tune from trifecta? I really would like to set mine up but I'm nervous that it won't run very well

I'm currently running the Trifecta E47 24 Psi tune and have been since the e-blend became popular for our platform. So far I've had no issues with clutch slippage on the stock clutch. I do have a KY clutch ready to install but since the stocker is holding I'll wait till I go big turbo to install the Ky.

Yeah I kn. I'm just pinpointing tuning to the customers wants are the correct way of tuning. But there is that point where a conversation would be needed like ifs and how's!

I'm at 325WHP/370WTQ (approx) on 93 oct and as soon as I got my BYT Tune my stocker went bye bye, So I just got a new SPEC 3+ w/ Aluminium flywheel put in and man what a diff it makes to have a clutch that grabs and holds the TQ! I'm getting tuned for E47 in 2 weeks estimated #'s should be 355-360WHP/400WTQ and I'm pumped!

Well I'd say get a better clutch (ky stge 3) you are obviously looking for more power anyways. Huge difference between e47 aggressive and 93 tune . You won't regret it

im on an aggressive 93 tune. my stock clutch just started slipping around 3500-4000 rpm last week. rest of the power band it holds, but i was planning on getting a KY stage 3 and e47 soon anyway. i dynoes 320/355 on pump gas.

Is running e85 just overkill for stock turbo aswell?

Most LNF's have trouble getting enough fuel in the midrange for full E85 unless you limit the midrange torque so the HP fuel pump can keep up. I ran out of fuel north of 70% on mine so stayed at E60, but no more power than E47 anyway.

If you have to limit the midrange, what's the point of E85? Convenience at the sacrifice of power. It isn't THAT hard to pump 6 or 7 gals of each (93 & E85) at a fill up.

Same, trifecta e47 24psi on stock clutch 71000 miles (21000 miles tuned) and no slippage!

It's 284/316 on a mustang dyno. I'm sure if I went over to a dyno jet it would give me some crazy 300 or 315

Sig has my mods.

Last edited by esink; Aug 19, 2012 at 05:22 PM. Reason: Edit - this isn't a 24 psi tune. It's 22. IT just happens to spike to 24 when the temperature drops below 65ish.
