Summer Tires

So, last fall when it came time to mount up my snow tires, I made the decision to junk my stock Conti's. I had kept them for 2 or 3 winters and put them back on in the spring, but they were at the point where it wasnt worth putting them back on in the spring.

Now that springs coming I need to get some new summer tires. I figured Id try something different, even though I didnt really have any issues with the Conti's. I wanted to get some advice from people on here. I know a lot of people have used various summer tires, and a common one is the BFG KDW's. But, from looking around I think I like the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Does anybody have any experience with them. Reviews seem to have them as one of the best performing tires while still maintaining superior comfort which is important up here on these AWFUL New England roads. I dont want tires that are going to be noisy! Money isnt a huge concern, Im going to buy them wholesale through my shop anyways.

Recommendations?

Those are somewhat the defacto high performance standard. I think there are better deals to be had, but if cost is of little concern, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't.

I personally run Continental DW for street use, and enjoy them, but I have a set of NT01 for track use. The DW are a good street tire. The rain performance is incredible, and they aren't obnoxiously loud.

Seriously, what's with all the random posts in the LNF tech section. Take this to wheels and tires. Oh and try a search, there are literally thousands of reviews for these tires you have listed.

Trollll... I wanted info and reviews specifically from LNF owners, hence my decision. I did search and didnt come up with enough information for what I was looking for. Thanks for the concern though

This should be in the wheel and tire section... but ill give you my opinion anyway because I'm not a dick (like some others) baiscally I agree with everything said by wangspeed. I use the continental extreme contact DW as my summer tires. They are a good perfomance tire with great wet weather reliability. I have never hydroplaned or lost control on wet roads. Very quiet and a great price (130ish on tirerack).

Had the DW's on my 'balt in the summer, ran DWS in the winter and liked the DW's so much I put 4 on the WS6 last year.

I have the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. I think they are the best performance road tires out there! Awesome in the dry and exceptional grip in the wet while being quiet and comfortable. It does everything well, except for the price tag

I use them for autox, they are also very precise when the direction is changing rapidly (also very quick steering response is one of the first thing i noticed with these tires)

I have to disagree with you, my man. I'm not liking mine. They seemed great for about 3K miles, then they started feeling like I sprayed the tread with tire-shine: slick and greasy. I'm thinking I got what I payed for.

If I could afford Michelin or Bridgestone, that's who I would stick with.

I've heard good things about the Dunlop Direzza Star Spec's as well. That will be my next summer tire.

Star specs are excellent too but op wants comfortable and quiet tires which the star specs are quite the opposite

I'm experiencing no such issues, that's with about 10k miles on em. Of course the Michelin or Bridgestone tires are going to be better, look at the cost difference.

I've had Kuhmo excta XSs, Bridgestone potenza re 760, and now I have KDWs although in different sizes 225,235 and 245 same order. For AutoX/cornering Id say XS>KDW>760 for straight line id say KDW>XS=760 noise 760>XS>KDW but none have been annoyingly loud to me. No experience with Michelins although I've seen the Michelins with a 30,000 mile warranty and they get great reviews on tirerack so they could be a better deal than they appear.

I here you. I have the DW's on my tc wheels for summer and the continental extreme winter contact on ss/ na wheels for the winter. Big fan of continental tires.

Great info and reviews so far, thanks! I'm definitely leaning towards the Michelin Pilot Super Sports, but after reading all the positive reviews on the Continental Extremes ill definitely check them out before I decide.

As far as some of the questions...I'm not sure on power. With GMS1 I put down 280whp and 305wtq on a dynojet. I'm now Trifecta/GMS1 with a Dejon Sri and TurboXS catless DP, so I'm sure some of you know better than I do roughly where I am for power. I do basically everything with the car.... its my DD, I take it to the strip occassionally, I autocross occassionally, and I plan on getting it onto a road course this summer.

Like I said I'm buying the tires through my shop and mounting them myself, so I'm not overly concerned with price... performance is my number one concern, and that includes comfort/noise as well as traction and handling.

I had BFG KDW's on my SRT-4, and I loved them. On my '91 Mustang i bought a pair of Kuhmos(can't remember which) but i LOVED them. I was skeptical about Kuhmo until i bought them. I would swear by them!

I got to drive a new Camaro SS with the Pilot Super Sports on it, and I was REALLY impressed. The feel was good, grip was great, and noise was minimal. You wouldn't go wrong with them, other than maybe the price. I liberally applied that 426hp, too..
