For those looking to get a turbo timer...

So I have been running the car for a while without a turbo timer, just letting the car idle for a few minutes every time I shut it off. I just don't like the idea of my car sitting with the keys in it, especially when I walk away from it at meets and at home(not like there's ever many people at meets though, usually 30-40 people and around 25 cars). Well, I looked around for turbo timers left and right and it was getting hard to find one for under $100 and lets just face it, its not that I don't have the money but for $100 I'll just let the keys sit in the car, if someone steals it that's what insurance is for....and if they make it 100 yards before wrecking it or stalling it I'll be amazed.
Well, just so everyone knows Ebay is your friend....$30 shipped for a brand new black with white lighting HKS Turbo Timer...those of you with the stock turbo or zfr you don't neccesarily need this, but guys running a larger just oil cooled turbo like me do.

Just an fyi, most insurance company's won't pay if your car gets stolen and your keys where left in it. If they investigate and find that your keys were either in the ignition or anywhere in the car, they usually won't pay. You may wanna check with your insurance company efore you decide to go that route.

Pretty sure they would if it was wrecked. It would just fall under a different part of my insurance and they would claim it as my fault so I'd pay a larger deductible. They can't make it that far anyways, she runs on E85 and drinks that stuff, LOL! They'd prob blow the engine from too much timing if they put pump gas in it. Plus it wouldn't spool for crap running that rich.

But meh, who cares now. I haz turbo tima.

I looked into getting one when I upgraded to the BNR but it retains water cooling so I just make sure I iddle a bit after parking the car, especially if I have been in boost prior to it.

A friend of mine has been through this before twice. One was he left his car idling in the driveway and ran back in his house to grab his wallet and when he came back out the car was gone, and the other was (same guy) he ran into the convenience store to grab cigarettes and when he came back out his new car was gone. These happened within the same year and his insurance company covered both. The only downside was the first car that was stolen was a mint condition GN with 19000km on it and he got robbed on the payout. Second car was an acura tl type S and got exactly what he payed for it back. I think they even gave him an extra 1500 because his cellphone and laptop were inside it.

Wrong, to a degree....

It's all about state laws. In Texas if you leave your keys in the car and it's stolen, it's a crime. If you commit a crime while in your vehicle insurance does NOT have to pay out. So yes, at least in Texas, leaving your keys in the car would result in the insurance company not paying out.

Ur friend needs to either, stop being dumb and learn from his mistake, or he needs a viper smart start GPS locating system. Then he can see where his car is and go steal it back when the theif runs into a store

Yeah, we'll see for sure. I think its shipping from Japan where they manufacture them but it is indeed an HKS turbo timer. Seller had a 99.3% positive feedback rating so I'm thinking I'm in the clear on that part. The expected delivery date is October 11th to 14th but he shipped it out like a few hours after I bought it so it may get here sooner. I don't mind waiting a few weeks for free shipping, lol.

§ 545.404. UNATTENDED MOTOR VEHICLE. An operator may not
leave the vehicle unattended without:
(1) stopping the engine;
(2) locking the ignition;
(3) removing the key from the ignition;
(4) setting the parking brake effectively; and
(5) if standing on a grade, turning the front wheels to
the curb or side of the highway.

Edit:

The law was passed because the police departments are tired of having to use resources to investigate stolen vehicle crimes when the owners are too stupid to take the keys out of the ignition...

That is f*cking awesome!

Back to subject, I might think about it. Not sure if I would really need one or the urge for one..

You don't need one. The turbo is water cooled, and through the wonderful laws of science, coolant will continue to move once the engine is off, albeit slowly. If you really run the car hard, just idle it for a minute, but for any sane street driving, there is no need to idle before you shut off the car. Just turn it off.

Lol, actually after further research HKS electronics are made indeed made in Japan!
But its apparently coming from Hong Kong which is a country in itself technically.

there are so many fakes out there for the japanese products. i read an article several years ago in sport compact car or super street about the fake hks and greddy products. they are extremely cheaply made, and the fakes are making the real products even more expensive. tial is another one that is copied a lot. their website even shows testing on the real tial products vs testing on the ebay fakes.

not saying yours is a fake by any means...i certainly hope it is not. everyone just needs to be careful when buying these products on ebay...or even used for that matter...cause you don't know where they're coming from and sometimes its hard to tell if they're real or fake.......especially online
