i know what the di ticking sounds like, it might be, but it sounded apart from that. poped the hood at home and listened, cant hear it now, but i hear a slight knocking, but that could also be something vibrating. dont know, i dont notice anything when im driving, it drives the same, responds the same, no codes. idk, ill get a dealer tech to have a listen i guess.

I always notice it in the winter while the car is idling and I clean off the ice.

Once the car warms up or has sat for a while or is cold it will tick louder for a while then " settle down into a 1 second ticking" the faster louder tick is during cam warm up then settles down after the oil gets so warm about a minute n a half or so.
I've proven its the temperature of the oil that causes the loud tick .. At least my observations is that it's the HPFP and the cam during start...
Even if you have the " cat warm up delete" it still sounds like that.
I have the sound dampening material off my injectors AND off the HPFP.
Not sure if thats really going to effect it but I can now hear that sucker clicking until the oil reaches a warmer level IE thinner viscosity...
The normal tick should be quiet and with a 1 second pattern not rapid..
It's either just that OR you could of thrown a rocker , timing chain tensioner could be acting up, etc..
I now have a VERY keen sense of what the car should sound like under normal running conditions ... Mine hasn't sounded normal for a very long time exhaust tone wise ..... Its hard to describe but now I got the correct tone programmed in my ear ...

no its not the di, here is what i hear, the di is doing the tick every second, and there is the rapid tick tick tick tick tick..ect thats coming from the motor itself, u can hear it better if u put ur ear up to the valve cover. i noticed it when i was going through drive through, thought it was car in front of me, cause id never heard it before. but it is from my car. i think i better just get it checked, i dont think its normal. cause i notice every little noise change in the car so im pretty sure this is not supposed to be there.

Sounds to me like timing chain or lash adjusters...
Pull the valve cover it takes like 10 minutes.
Record a video of your engine bay with the camera about 1 ft away from the engine if you want ...
If its audible enough to hear I should be able to tell if it is " normal "

the tick in the back ground DOES NOT sound normal to me ... Behind the DI fuel pump noise.
Not normal..
period
They both sound wrong to me .... it shouldn't sound like that ..... I'll upload a video of mine idling and it USED to sound like that before I replaced the lash and rocker.
Its either timing chain tensioner or ^
