Tire?
Tire?
I posted this in the tire section but didnt get any response what do you think. I was wondering since alot of us are having traction issues, what if we put on a 255/35-18 like a bfg g-sport. Over all the tire height ends up being same as stock you just have a couple extra inches on the ground and it will fit the wheel wells. what do people think? Will it slow you down at the quarter, decrease gas milage and so on?
Why cant you? You can still drive in the rain and on the streets, you just have to be very, very careful. I should be getting my take home Patrol car here in the next few months so I can do what I want with my car then because I wont need it for work anymore, woohoo!!!
I will be getting some MT DR's here in the next few months.

Not really sure!! But honestly, when I'm not working I wont have to go anywhere, and if I do I will do it on a day when it's not raining. Once I get my own take home Patrol car I will only need my car when I wanna go somewhere, which isnt that often. And we work 12hr shifts, 4 on, 4 off, 4 on, 4 off, and it's like that all the time, so I will just pick a nice day if I need to go somewhere, and if I dont I wont go anywhere.

255-35-18 are not recommended for 7.5" wheels.
Will it decrease gas mileage?....Yes more rolling reisitance, more weight
will it slow you down in te quarter mile?...if both you had equal traction.... yes more weight.
255 would be a bit to wide for the stock rim, if you put on like a 9 inch rim then perhaps. I wouldnt bother putting a 255 on. Just go with 235, i can tell you that i have the Potenza RE-11 and they stick much better than the stock tires. Even with the trifecta tune they do very well, still spin a bit in second but only if they are cold, and the road is cold. If they are warm, and the pavement is warm it's quite a bit less tire spin.
True, you'd probably have some rubbing I'd assume. I honestly don't plan on a drop since this suspension was tuned perfectly for the car.
No offense to the owners, but if I was an N/A or an SS/SC I'd do some suspension mods as Chevy didn't seem to care as much back then. They did some serious homework and fine tuning with the TC's suspension.

For me, I'd rather have more fun through the twisties than a straight! Not stating that lowering a car will kill your overall enjoyment and functionality, but we all know it will in some form or another!
Holy wideness!!! Have you ever leaned down and looked at the back of your car even with the stock tire width?
I LOVE how the rear tires stick out from the edges of the rear bumper. That's how you know this aint your rental cobalt!

I've been doing alot of research into fitting a 255 on the car. My overall plan is to Time Attack this car, so the more grip I can get, the better. I am dropped on Sportlines, and have done all my measurements while being dropped. Here is what I have come up with...
We will need a rim with quite a bit more aggressive offset, at LEAST an 8 inch rim, preferably a 8.5" rim. At this point in time, I am convinced a +38 offset rim will do the job well, but if i could find a +35 to test fit, I would definitely do this. The fenders, even though the lip is rolled from the factory, is going to need to be flared a bit.
Now, this is pure measurement. I haven't gotten a test fit, because it is a pretty touchy subject with rim retailers. Once the rim goes on the car, it is classified used, and therefore, kinda useless for the retailer. If i could get a test fit, I think i could make this happen. Also, it would help if more rim manufacturer's would make wheel in our bolt patter, with a bigger selection of sizes. 18x8 is the biggest I can find thus far.
For now... it looks like 245's will be my only option, guess I'll just have to pick the stickiest tires I can get.

The SS/SC has a great suspension , they changed the spring rates and a few other tweaks for your FE5 but it wasn't a huge overhall . Go look at the skipad G's of the ss/sc and tc , and slalom , then tell me how GM didn't care about the ss/sc suspension.
300ft skidpad
.89g ss/Sc
.92g ss/tc
Braking yes these are correct from car and driver
70-0 160ft ss/sc
70-0 162ft SS/TC
