A topic beat to death already D:

So I haven't been employed since I bought my car in 2010 lol

So since being on this site is basically painful because everyone is always doing sweet stuff with their rides ive decided to get a part time job to get some fancy things finally done.

My mods are pretty simple:

BadMab Catless DP - about $220
GMS1 Tune - about $1,100

So thats as much as Ive been able to afford thus far..

This summer im hoping for the following mods:

Trifecta switchable tune - probably around $700
K&N Short ram - probably end up being about $400

My question is... because I wasted all the money on the GMS1 im very interested in an aggressive tune that takes advantage of my 3Bar Sensors I got with GMS1.

My plan is il have, my intake and catless DP... and a 26PSI tune dialled in to the intake a catless dps - with the toggle being the completely STOCK GMS1 tune.

26PSI tune sound legit? From my reading, you can really dial in a 22PSI tune, and trifecta usually ends up not being the best option as it makes less HP for the type of PSI your pushing. But I cannot deal with a HP tune, seeing as I physically convert my car to stock for winter every year no matter what, as well as for dealership visits (they HATE when my car is catless and I bring it in).

"Too long; didn't read" :

Is a 26PSI trifecta tune going to take advantage of the 3Bar GMS1 sensors? Will anything take advantage of it? With an intake and DP and 26PSI tune, if Im just doing pulls and highway driving (no aggressive racing or bagging) should that PSI level be fine more or less?

Thanks

You prob don't want to go any higher than 23 considering you don't have an intercooler or charge piping. But you will notice a big difference of GMS1 just because of the added timing that a tune adds. Also your 3 bar maps aren't gonna help much. They are just more accurate for reading pressures above 21psi.

He's in Canuck-land. Stuff is pricier there.

A spike to 26psi prolly would be okay since Vince tunes conservatively but you should discuss that with him before anything. He may suggest something else for you.

Why do you need to switch the tune in the winter? I drove in the snow with my car in Michigan just fine. If snow depth is a problem get a truck.

Yes everything is pretty expensive here, and I by no means live in a remote area of Canada.. but there is still no place to buy a K&N intake anywhere locally. Assuming they go for about $299.99 anywhere in Canada.. plus shipping, plus taxes... $400.

GMS1 was $750 and install was a bit more yes, with %10 tax came to about $1100 :|

Also the e-mails ive exchanged with vince, having him dial in a tune and set something up nice and custom ended up (again.. shipping, duty fees, taxes.. etc etc) to about $700.

Its the price you pay to live in gorgeous country I guess...

But back to the topic at hand. Inter coolers are actually reasonably cheap and thats something I would consider replacing as well to play around with higher PSI. But, if either way... 24 PSI is the magic number than that is good to know. The IC is deff something I want to replace since mine has blow already and been replaced under warranty.

My biggest reason for having my car stock during the winter is noise, having no cat but the car still doing a warm up cycle for example (tunable I know) is really loud and annoying when its cold out. Also my car doesn't hit boost for 5 months, so might as well not get salt and **** all over my nice performance parts if I really dont have too.. swapping parts off is a personal choice and I enjoy working on my car

I stopped smoking weed/drinking now for over a year, so its been easy to justify spending a bit more money on OTHER things I enjoy.

They did a great job on the install and the dealership treats me VERY well.
All in all worth it to me - so the high price of the GMS1 was worth it for me so far. Since im pretty sure ive broken all the weak parts on my car with it anyhow.

Hopefully my car is strong like bull now, and ready for an after market tune :P

Must be nice to have dealers willing to work with you. Both of the Dealerships around me refused to put on a gms1 kit unless I purchased it from them. Plus the warranty that would come with the kit is voided. I think I was quoted 850-875 for kit and installation

23-24psi is the right zone. 20-21 is the safest zone for a tune.

GMS1 was around 900$ for me in Ontario, dealer installed after taxes.

It sounds like he's a tradesperson waitin on the list for a job call, that's why he can grab a part-time until he gets sent out.

I worked for 5 years and budgeted taking two years off work fro school. The budget doesn't include car mods and this is why I'm looking for field related part time employment. I'm training to be a primary care paramedic ..then fire fighter training would follow. ;-) that or the army as a medic of sorts

Dude, $700 isn't even close for a Trifecta tune. The tune and cable are $400 MAX if you have to buy both. I know some vendros were giving cables away for free recently, so that brings your tune down to about $200. As for shipping and taxes, those aren't going to be much for the cable... $50 at most.

Getting parts in Canada doesn't have to cost you a fortune. You just need to find a vendor that understands the proper way to ship internationally and you should save a ton of money. Avoid places the use FedEx and UPS and DHL or any other courier servies. USPS/Canada Post charges a minimal importing fee and all you pay is the 5% Federal tax and whatever your provincial tax is on the value of the item. No different than if you were to buy it in Canada.

Let me know if you ever have trouble finding things and I can help you out. I buy all my stuff in the US because I refuse to pay the inflated Canadian prices.
