Tune and Methanol Injection

I took my car to SMG Motoring in Hopedale MA on Saturday. Fred Jr. installed a Snow Performance stage 2 methanol injection kit and tuned the car for me. My baseline run was 229 HP and 234 ft lbs of torque at the wheels. It made 278 HP and 328 ft lbs of torque after the methanol and the tune, thats 49 more HP and 89 more ft lbs of torque. He probably coulda squeezed a little more out of it but we ran out of time. I plan on going back soon to lend my car to Fred so he can develop a down pipe for the Cobalt LNF. I hope to put it back on the dyno then and see how much more he can get out of the tune. I'll have more pictures and videos once I can get them off of my girlfriends computer.

Anyone else running methanol in their LNF?

Nice....I haven't heard about to many people using meth on the TC, what kind of temps are you seeing with it? and how much psi are you running now?

My intake temps were only 74 degrees on my last run. I hitting 22 psi now and injecting methanol from 6 psi and up.

wow, thats a heartbreaker dyno. the torque seems ok I was hoping for you to see some gains from your meth setup . Meth is a must for SC'd apps but no one has shown any gains from it.

we did three series of runs. baseline, tune only, and tune with methanol injection. I don't have the exact numbers right now on how much more I made with the meth but it was a decent gain. Enough to make me glad I did it.

Nice gains. Yes the dyno has been known to be quite the heartbreaker, but I like to think of it as being realistic.

Bring that beast to New Bedford on a Saturday night and see how she really runs..

278hp on a tune? Is that a bit low or is it just me? But if you were only showing 229 before than its a good gain. Let us know how the meth works out for you.

I was thinking the same thing but if his stock numbers were low as well, its a good improvement.

Now which meth mixture are you using? Any specific meth formulation or just the ol' wiper washer fluid method?

I did some meth tuning on the stock turbo and it didn't make any diff. if you ran the meth or not. I did
311.77whp and 380.77wtq on stock everything but the intercooler. the iats with the aftermarket intercooler made the biggest diff. the only time you use meth or race gas is when your unable to reach peak power in relation to timing etc.... I was able to reach peak timing with my setup with out the meth. when the meth was added it was not picking up much of anything. though it still was not knocking there is no reason to run more timing if its not needed. on an aftermarket turbo meth will deff. help!

I'm just using -20 degree washer fluid/ de-icer. Idk why everyones is saying my stock numbers are low. The car makes 260 HP stock at the flywheel and i was putting 229 of them to the wheels. That sounds pretty good to me, only loosing 31 HP through the drivetrain.

We had people dyno 254 that's why were saying its kind of low but it all depends on the kind of dyno you were on too

someone needs to learn how to tweak the cam tables. cramming a **** ton of timing down the lnf without other changes is a moot point

I was able to tweak the cam tables a little and shifted my torque curve more into the lower rpm range.

254 HP at the wheels on a 260 HP engine? I find that hard to believe if they were completely stock with no tune. Their drivetrain would have to be 98% efficent for that. Sounds like they got a very generous dyno. The one i was was a brand new dynojet. I was the second car ever to run on it and the first customer. I don't consider it a "heartbreaker" dyno, it's just realistic.

sae was higher.
smoothing can create lower or higher numbers. learn to use the dyno for what it does the best. not for skewing numbers
