Turbo Pics

Now that I have everyones attention I was reading a thread on here about a worn out turbo where the rotor was scrapping the housing of the turbo due to alot of shaft play. And it looked very similar to the pictures I took a month ago of the inside of my turbo. I guess what I am asking is do these few pictures of my turbo look like the rotors are scraping the housing ? Or is the light just shining off the housing from my camera flash ? IDk... I'm just looking for some opinions. The car seems to work fine. Has decent power and boosts to about 19-20 psi. It is gms1 only. There are no obsene or crazy noises coming from the turbo or smoke from the exhaust. To me the scrape looking marks are well before the turbo's rotor. But I wanted to get another opinion. On to the pics !

Anyone ? If it matters any. When I took this picture I did check the shaft play. It didn't seem to be too bad. It had a tiny bit. But not much at all. It had zero in and out. And maybe 1/16 side to side. If that. I tried uring it by hand and it didn't seem like it was contacting the housing by hand. But under laod, who knows ? Thats why I was wondering if the first picture looks like rotor contact marks ? But they almost seem to be BEFORE the rotor ? Again , maybe just the flash from the camera in the irst pic ? because the other two pics dont look bad. IMO.

Is there in out shaft play? If there is no shaft play and those scratches are from before the blades there. U probably at some point got something sucked into ur turbo , like maybe fine sand or something. That would kinda worry me on how those got there. Make sure u don't have any place any air is getting sucked in post filter

Thats what I'm wondering. I mean the car seems to work fine. For the most part. It seems to boost around 18-20 psi . Which is normal I think for gms1. I have never sucked any thing of a decent size into the turbo that I know of. I did have two boost leaks around the 3bar map sensors due to gm not installing the proper o-rings. But other then that. IDK... The rotor doesnt seem to have any shaft play in or out at all. And has only a faint amount of in or out play. IDK what to think or due ? Do i replace what seems to be a okay working turbo ? And or is it really scraping the housing or not ?

So, nothing has happened that would indicate the turbo is bad and the car is running fine. I think you'll be okay. Just keep an eye on it.

turbo should have no in and out, it can have lil up and down but as long as it not touching compressor housing. If its hitting you need rebuild asap it will only get worse.

Pretty much , I was just wondering if those what look like scratch marks could mean my turbo is almost toast. And now that I am looking closely at that first picture. Look at the center of the screw that holds that blade on. It kinda looks like a small piece of it broke out !! Maybe that is what caused the scatches ! I have saw a few other close ups of our turbo's. And no one else's seems to be broke .
