Want more quite exhaust.

I have a catless downpipe and stock exhaust. Is there an exhaust that will reduce the noise while maintaining or improving performance?

From experience I have found out that different size mufflers make little difference in sound. A different type of muffler may help. I've always used Magnaflow because they use a straight through design. Flowmaster mufflers may be quieter because they have baffles.
A high flow cat I would think would make the exhaust quieter.
I think resonators make exhaust a little quieter too but I'm not positive about this.

I had a ZZP catted DP on with the stock catback and it was much quieter than the catless DP but louder than stock. Trouble was 1850*f+ EGT's on long hard pulls (tuned) wasn't good for cat life.

Get the longest resonator you can, it will quiet it down and reduce rasp.

So what will be the difference in choosing between a resonater or quieter muffler in terms of performance. Also how would I know if a muffler will make it louder or quieter.
