Wastegate sizing question

What is the maximum size of turbo I can run with my tial 38mm before I have to go bigger? Don't see myself going lower than 20psi ever.

Alot of factors determine if you'll have boost creep from the wastegate being too small, not just size of the turbo.

Just swap the turbo and watch the logs/boost gauge, if it creeps too much for your liking go bigger.

Pretty much. There's no set size or power level that equates to wg sizing. Also, the higher boost you run, the less wg needed. So a setup that has creep at 20psi may be perfectly fine at 25+.

The single turbo guys with the 335 are using a single 38mm WG with a 6466. I don't know why they didnt go with a 44mm but they say it works fine.

But that's on a 3.6 no Lol? I am not sure the size of the 335i motors. I just don't want to experiment. Putting it all together and then no. Doesn't work. Have to take it apart. Just thought maybe someone had experimented before.

Like they said, it depends on the target boost level. It also depends on the exhaust system and if the wastegate is plumbed back in or dumped external, among other factors.

Wastegate sizing.goes for boost amounts really, normally bigger wastegate for.running lower amounts of.boost smaller wastegate.for.running.high amounts of boost.

I will admit to being a total newb when asking this, but don't you buy a wastegate to match a turbo rather than a turbo to match a wastegate?

Lol! How is the lag????

Ya. But I bought a s256et kit made 500whp and now I want more. I went s259 Batmowheel but it didn't work from the factory. So I was thinking of doing something else. If I have to replace most of the kit i will stick with the s256et.

Lots of heat, proper tuning/fueling, and a quick spool valve. Also considering getting rid of FMIC, shortening piping way down and relocating the fuse box so that I can install an air/water intercooler there.

Funny how many "experienced" tuners miss this part. Especially on e.

The quick spool valve only works on turbos with a split exhaust inlet in the housing. Also will not work well with with a split manifold.

I think a lot of that is "tuners" that don't want to be held accountable for a blown motor for quicker spool, when you can easily blame shitty spool on a turbo and not from the tuning.

Speaking of spool, has anyone changed the spring in their tial wastegate? What spring is everyone using?

Honestly, I don't think most of them are that smart lol. 99% tune it like a gas car. Which "works"
Just not ideally. Ask Jon how hard his car hits.
The honest best description I can give is it's like a small pulley m62 with a slight delay in the throttle.
