Why is it called E47 when half of 85 is 42.5?

Shouldn't it be called E42.5

E85 is partially gas already thus you're getting E47 just trust us, anyways it's benefits are it's practically as knock resistant as E85 but since the direct injectors aren't stressed as much it's easier to run, especially at higher HP.

I have run half E85 and half 93, so I know the advantages. I just didn't know why it as called E47. Ill continue calling it E42.5.

Let's clear things up a bit here. Everyone that has posted is correct, sort of.

E47 is achieved by mixing E85 + E10(your regular cheap pumpgas that's labeled "may contain up to 10% ethanol") at a 1:1 ratio.

E42.5 is achieved by mixing E85 + 100%gas(the more expensive pumpgas that not every station offers) at a 1:1 ratio.

It's not like taking a 5 gallon pale of 110 and filling up with 5 gallons of 100 and suddenly you have 10 gallons of 105. The ethanol content of the gas you're adding to the E85 needs to be factored in.

Before I move on here though let me take a second and state the obvious. I know everyone knows but just so we're all clear. E85, E47, E42.5, etc is all just a percentage, E%(ethanol). But with that being said, because it is a percentage and not an octane rating, you can make Ewhatever with 93gas just like you can make Ewhatever using 87gas. So that needs to be factored in when tuning.

Where I live, the gas stations have 91 pure gas OR 93 e10. Since 91 octane is advertised on the pump WITHOUT the "10% ethanol added" sticker, I assume it's pure. And it seems all the ethanol stations have is 91 pure gas, not 93E10. So I guess I'm running e42.5. Unless there is in fact ethanol in the fuel and they don't have to advertise it anymore?
Basically , to be able to mix 93 e10 and e85 that means I would have to go to 2 different gas stations.

Can we deleted this thread purely off of the ignorance of the OP to not do his own diligence, or math?

My e85 source is 85% ethanol guaranteed in a drum.

Gonna mix 50 percent with 116 octane unleaded probably.

Almost sounded like it was going to be a Regular Show quote "You know who else cant hook up? MY MOM" I've been hanging around my 13 year old daughter too much, lol. I'm going back to bed now.

By the way, I'm going to try an E47 tune if my lazy ass tuner gets on it ( Kidding, 09CobaltSS1 did an incredible job on my 93 tune, cant wait to see what he can do with the E ) . I see people like CMiller and Raver putting a splash of race fuel in. How does that make your exhaust smell, the E/race fuel mix?

Its way too late in the season for new meats now. Haha. Next year that'll be my only thing I'm doing to my car. Possibly just get a set of 17s and run nt01s or the Hoosier radials. Idk yet.
