When do I put gas in my car?

I was driving around the just doing some thinking and I noticed my gas was low. It got me thinking is filling up when the tank is near empty hard on the fuel pump or fuel related parts of the car or is filling up when the car has a lot of gas (lets say half full mr optimistic) going to be bad due to possible debris, condensation, humidity and other particles staying in the tank due to non circulation.

I'm probably way over analyzing this, but I thought it was an interesting thought.

So what better for the cobalt? filling the tank close to empty or filling it up when theres gas in it?

the gas that is in the tank cools the fuel pump. When the pump is above the gas that's left in the tank, the pump will not say cooled properly.

The fuel filter is after the pump(external one) There is however a 'sock' that is on the inlet of the pump that can get clogged just like a normal external filter and cause the pump to work a little harder and there's still a chance for sediment and other crap to get into the pump.

While I am not sure whether a slight lack of cooling to the pump or keeping a slight amount of crap out of the fuel system will prolong the life of your pump and system a significant amount, I am a big believer of 'better safe than sorry' when it comes to these new(er) vehicles. I usually fill up between a 1/3 and 1/2 tank.

I heard using diesel gives you even more torque. Maybe throw a mix of diesel/gas in there, like 20/80 when it get's low. I would think adding this at about 1/8th of a tank would be good.

don't b a vagina. You use 100 percent diesel. it's fine as long as your flux capacitor is working. just be careful because once you get around 88mph **** gets crazy. Torque steer like a biotch

Fill up before you run out. I've had a couple cars that I've ran close or over 200k miles on. I always filled when it was on E, or close to E, never had any fuel pump problems.

I'm not sure about your car, but on mine there is a little gauge between the speedo and tach that tells you how much gas is left in the car.

The owners manual says to fill it back up before it falls below the red line, also known as 'empty.' If you go too far, a warning light will even come on reminding you to fill up. Neat, eh?

Seriously, doesn't matter when you fill up. Low gas level won't hurt your fuel pump. It's perfectly fine for your car. Don't believe me, look in the owners manual. Says nothing about low gas level hurting your fuel pump.
