yeah ppl tell me they see black smoke coming out of my tailpipe when I NLS hard and goes away. I don't know if that is a good sign or not and have no CEL to indicate it. White smoke I don't knwo. These cars have made people so paranoid because of the many sensors we have compare to the LSJ that has less.

like tom.g said, most likely it's a lean condition. Seeing as how this happens BETWEEN shifts (lifting off of the gas), that would only make logical sense to say that's what's going on. I would check the plugs to see what they look like, and possibly run a log or 2 if you have the ability to do so.

We're not talking some extensive tools here. You don't have a 10mm socket and/or wrench, a 5/8" spark plug socket, socket extension, and a ratchet?
i dont have a spark plug socket, socket extension but i will get one tomorrow

Why? There might not even really be a problem with the car. You can't get yourself all psyched out and bummed based on a bunch of people blindly throwing random guesses as to what the issue may be (me included). Do some basic troubleshooting and go from there. Check the simple stuff first; check plugs for discoloration, check all fluid levels and make sure nothing is in there that shouldn't be ( such as oil in coolant, cooland in oil). If everything looks good, and you're still worried then go to the next level and have someone competent check the car out for you.

I am thinking it was rich smoke seeing who tuned your car. Rich smoke can look whitish in color. Oil smoke is very blue and coolant smoke looks white and smells like burnt sugar.

I told him a while back he should get an updated tune. With no misfire codes or constant smoke I bet its what you said causing the prob.

Yeah I have seen two of the tunes he did to cars in texas they were running 11.4 A/F in the upper RPMs which is stupid rich for this car.

Never seen one of these cars blow white smoke from running lean.

Horrible smelling white smoke is normally burning coolant. Keep and eye on your coolant levels and check your plugs for greenish white scaley depoists that smell like burnt sugar.

You've never seen a boosted engine blow white smoke due to a lean condition?? Strange, because that's usually a tell tale sign of running lean in my field of work....

Either way, me nor tom.g said that it was definitely a lean condition.. it was just speculation. As is every post in this thread unfortunately. However, I do agree that it is most likely tune related.... again, I'm just speculating though..

When you shift you let your fooot up off the throttle. When the throttle butterfly closes manifold vacuum goes to max. Watch your boost/vacuum guage. When it happens suddenly some oil will be sucked past the valve guides into the combustion chamber and produce a puff of smoke. Check your coolant and oil ocassionally for cross contamination if it will make you feel better but your condition, AS YOU DESCRIBED IT, is nothing to worry about.

Never, but you cannot commanded leaner than 1.00 lambda (14.7 A/F on gas) on these cars. I have never seen smoke from a lean condition ever come to think of it and lets just say when I put the WB to my stock Polaris Outlaw 525S the A/F was showing as lean as 18.0:1 down low and 15.4 most of the rest of the way (stock emissions minded jetting LOL). No white smoke. A lack of power and a very clean pipe is all I had.

Interesting... I can't really comment on your quad motor but maybe I've just gotten too accustomed to working on diesel engines, however most of this does still cross-over into the gaseous world as well. The general rule of thumb that we were always taught in school, go by at our shop, and I've always been taught even as a kid is

white smoke: possible lean condition, bad head gasket, warped head and/or coolant being burnt

gray/blueish smoke: oil being burnt in some form, or even bad valve guide(s) or seat(s)

black smoke: rich condition and/or ignition problem causing rich condition

Hasn't set me too astray yet in my almost 30 years of life, and almost 8 years of doing it in my professional carreer.

To be putting out smoke like that though, your car must be running ridiculously rich right now though if it is indeed a fuel problem. My car has a failed map sensor atm (waiting on the 3 Bars to get here) loads up in the morning on fuel, and runs ridiculously rich. I can smell it, obviously it smells like gas and its way more obnoxious than any other catless turbo car I've been around and doesn't smoke a bit. Had people following behind me before and they never reported seeing smoke.
