Wierd Spark plug Question

My #1 Spark plug Had oil in the threads and all the way up to the seat of the plug. Not alot just a little coat of oil if that makes sense...not like a puddle. lol the Electrode and stuff looked normal and dry. Could i possibly be having some blow-by? would it be wise to do a compression test? Thanks for the help in advance!

You mean up to the part where the coil pack plugs in? It's just a leaky valve cover seal. Have a shop replace the seal. Get a painted/coated valve cover while you're at it, if you like.

I would like a painted valve cover! lol but its not the valve cover, it on the upper half of the spark plug threads and right where the spark plug seats on the head....

Yeah, that sounds like a bad valve cover gasket. The gasket leaks, and then when you pull the plug, it coats the threads from the top down. If you look in the hole for that plug, I bet there's a bunch of oil. Pretty common problem on pretty much every car.

The coil pack, and every where in the head fron the spark plug seat is bone dry and shiny....thats why i thought is was coming form the combustion chamber. idk maybe a compression check will tell me more.

I had the same issue with my spark plugs. There was oil on the threads but there wasn't anything leaking from the valve cover and the electrode of the spark plug was dry...

Essentially, it was from the threads closest to the seat all the way to about the last 2-3 threads by the electrode. Not a lot, just noticeable.

I did a compression test and I was about 145-150 across the board at the time... But low and behold, just a couple months later I lost compression on cylinder #3 and it only pushes out 95 psi. I'm not saying this is going to happen to you, but the oil on the plug was a warning that oil was blowing by the pistons and lightly coating the spark plug threads. It wasn't a lot at first as it would burn off the electrode leaving them dry there. But now that piston #3 is no longer holding compression, it is getting coated in oil. All the other cylinders still show a light coating on the threads.

Do a compression test.

Thanks for the input i will prolly do a compression test later this week! the oil is only on ONE of my spark plugs, was it on ALL of yours?

Yeah, It started off as only one when i first changed them in February. It was only Cylinder #3. I didn't think anything of it. Then i changed them again a few months ago after a seafoam and all of them looked like that.

Now Cylinder #3 has low compression.

Like I said, this might not happened to you or even be the same thing. I just am adding my experience and recommend a compression check.

Maybe I misunderstood how the oil looks on the plug. I thought it was from the top down, not bottom up.
