WTF just happened.

After the track and on my way home tonight I come up to a stop sign. I launch the car, it rolls out alittle, then it blows the tires off. As i'm sitting on the limiter waiting for the tire speed to catch up before I do the 1-2 shift and the car just shuts down. It didn't shut off it just pulled back the throttle and is idling at about 500rpm. The car sits like this for about 10 seconds and is not responding to me hitting the throttle...than it just takes back off like nothing ever happened? No CEL, misfires, or anything out of the ordinary for the rest of the ride home.

Does this car have an overrev protection(limp mode) that activates if the car is on the limiter too long? I sat on the limiter for about a full second before this happened.

yes you hit a limp mode but a weird one.... usualy when you hit overboost the car does not shut off but runs at 5% throttle for a little and when you bounce the rev limiter too much the car shuts down ... maybe you let off at the perfect time and the car didnt power down. i wouldnt worry about ti too much unless it happens again... or you overboosted for some resion.

Its traction control. As much as the DIC says traction control is off, its not completely off til you turn ESC off. The way ESC works is it compares all 4 wheel speeds to each other. When they stay out of a certain range for so long, it tries to compensate. I had this happen to me once at the strip... its really not good for ET's, lol.

Go out and try it with the ESC off and it shouldn't (won't) do it.

Also, its OBVIOUSLY not a limp mode. The car will tell you when its in limp mode. More than just displaying it on the DIC, there will be no accel, no boost, etc... and limp mode last for much longer than a couple seconds.

This^^

I noticed that once upon a time as well at the track. I had it in competition mode and messed up my launch a bit and that stupid low traction thingy came on and I was like WTF?!?! From that point on I just completely turn the ESC off and all is a big..and trust me you would KNOW FOR SURE if it was in limp mode...I had to drive home from the track in limp mode one time (about 35 miles) because my Fuel Pressure Regulator Solenoid wire ripped or something (code P0091) and it was THE most frustrating thing in the world.

Make any extra noises?

Overall sounds like some sort of 'stop beating me' protection.

If it drives fine now, you know what NOT to do

******* BUMP!! mine did that last night too!!! burned out and it made a weird noise (thought i blew the trans again) then sat at 500 rpms extremely rough idle. Shut it off in the staging area. turned it on and reved it out to 5000k to make sure it was okay. took off down the track at half throttle and it was fine. very weird

guess it's safe to safe if you're driving competitively to turn off ESC. On the stock tune I always just put it in competitive, but now I'll turn the ESC completely off. Thanks fellas!

Had the same thing happen to me at the strip but I totally forgot to turn the traction control off at all. Rolled through the water box, figured I'd give the tires a quick spin

rev
dump cluch
car falls on face
500rpm
realize what I had done
put my head down feeling like a dumdass.

My cars an automatic and it does this if the tires spin for too long and it doesn't have traction control. Throttle comes back in about 5 seconds.

+1 Why would you "sit on" your limiter, its there to keep you from redlining, not to keep the throttle pinned until you get traction

This wouldnt typically be traction control, but maybe it was a last ditch effort by traction control to get your damn tires under control.... Ive never heard of traction control halting use of the accelerator though, typically it just applies the brakes in a sort of reverse ABS manner. It could also be your car went into some type of limp mode and basically said F*** you to try to recooperate after being rap** like a honda

Just my opinion of course
