WTF TWM shifter

well the install worked except for pretty much any step. It was great, I got the plastics out of the way. Got to the step to remove the stock shift knob, and almost like how the rest of my life is going.... nothing. Used multiple flat head screwdrivers, called over my buddy, beat on it, twisted it ( I know it has splines to prevent it from spinning but directions recommended trying it). So great, well I was thinking, if I can take out the whole assembly via loosening the nuts holding the rubber bushing in place than maybe I can get a better position on the shift knob. Well you prob. already know what didn't happen. The front passenger bushing is stuck like lock jaw. I pretty much messed up that whole area beating it with a screwdriver, trying everything to loosen the bushing. Basically i'm pissed and ranting away, wondering how this could be as hard as it is and how to fix it. If any SS/TC owners have the TWM shifter and had either problem and figured it out and wouldn't mind sharing their success, it would be much appreciated.

Don't beat your car with tools...? That would have been step one...

Should the install have gone even remotely close to directions, I would agree.

The fact that you bought a TWM shifter has nothing to do with your troubles removing your OEM shifter. The knob is tough to remove but, if you can't get it off with out beating on your car with a screwdriver then you need to take it somewhere and have it installed for you. Did you ever stop and think, maybe I shouldn't use a screwdriver as a hammer and beat my car with it?

If you ever get the urge to beat on your car with tools, its time to put them down and step away for a beer and a smoke... or two.

If I had that much trouble I would have just payed a reputable local shop some money to do it for me.

Oh my God! LMFAO! Seriously, my stomach hurts. --- I bet he never even tried!!!

Still laughing my ass off at this guy - beating his **** with a screwdriver. Dude, like why the eff did you even buy the shifter in the first place. It's not like the stock shifter sucks! GM even installed a better version than the 06/07 cars with a shorter throw. I see this as a total waste of money, and now your **** is whacked becuse your wanted to replace a stupid shifter in a FREAKIN cobalt! Way to go ace!

thats great. I didn't actually tear up my interior with a screwdriver, i was trying to get the point across that i ACTUALLY put forth effort in removing the shift knob. Im not that dumb to **** up the stock shifter in case i decide to put it back in. Oh wait, your telling me all u have to do is lift it up????? come on people, im sorry if i sound like a retard but i tried that. My guess is that its pressed in there real good like. Im going to a shop tomorrow to see if they can help, and yes i understand that the problem with my stock shifter has nothing to do with the TWM shifter. I'm sorry but i understand y some people become dicks on here, some of the replies just provoke people

Zerort, thanks for the positive input, you were a great help, couldn't have done it with out you. In case you come across a situation of "why replace the stock item when the stock item is fine", well sometimes just the fact that its stock is enough to replace it. All stock car hoods are good, so y get an aftermarket one??? sometimes if u just sit back and put your thinking hat on u can come up with some crazy ideas.

I got the shift knob off but I had to apply a ton of pressure with two screwdrivers. And for the front passenger bushing, which gave me problems too, I just pulled as hard as I could and it finally broke loose.

No, push the two screwdrivers in so that you can pull up on the screwdrivers to pry the knob off

Dude, you're right. I just was picturing this in my head and it seemed funny so I was laughing pretty hard - picturing someone beating their **** like that. I apologize man.

Anyway, it's your car, so yeah do what you want with it - that's cool! Just short throw shifters looks gay to me - this tiny little thing sticking up with the boot all bunched up and stuff! But if you like it, great! Good luck with your mod!

HB - apparently you like short tiny things - short shifter, shorty antennae - must be a relfection of something else you can relate too!
