ZFR 6758 or 7163?

Hey guys Fluff here and I got a question for YA. I am currently deployed and due home sometime in May. I currently have a 2009 SS sedan with 65k on the clock, bone stock longblock/tranny k04. I have a stage 4 southbend clutch going in at the time of the turbo swap. So here's the issue. I got a good deal on a used zfr 6758 in the beginning of the deployment and I initially planned on swapping that in with a mild boost ramp to prolong the life of my f35. However the 7163 looks quite intriguing. My goal initially was 400whp but since I'll have to boost ramp the zfr anyway why not run the 7163 and squeeze some extra power out of it? What do you guys think? Is it worth upgrading to the 7163 prior to install? Or just keep the 6758 and swap that?

I think you should you for the 7173 if you have the cash then just sell your 6758

What he said ^ this way you, in no way, will push the turbo or have to to get the power you want. I was thinking the same thing. Eventually I'll do it.

that's what I was thinking. I have the cash ready to go for both the swap and the 7163 no issues. Just wish I realized they were releasing a 7163 before I bought the 6758 😂😂 still looking for opinions.

Yeah well the cobalt ss gang also thinks James Rakes is the greatest tuner in the world... so there's that.

Personally I would run the 7163 if you have the option. You can always turn down the boost to safe levels, and you won't have to ramp the 7163 as much since it spools slightly later.

Do what your wallet allows you to do, a 57mm turbo vs a 54mm turbo obviously will make a tad more power safer. Be prepared for future things like cracked coolant passage or blown F35, start sourcing a cheap 4.05 LSD for the future since 4.45s are scarce.

You will love the 7163. I just had mine installed last week and it has been amazing!! It takes a second or so longer to spool but when it does you can def feel it.

Yeah I've looked into a 4.05 trans. Working with a guy and might have a good deal on 4.45s and a 7163. Question. To run 7163 on pump gas will i be able to push the turn on 93 without running into fueling issues? Or will that require headwork?

I would strongly consider valve springs with a 7163. No sense in choking the power off at only 7k on the stock valve train.

Before I hear crap about it.... Yes I know there are folks kicking around that will rev the stock valve train to 7400rpm. I personally can't, in good conscious, condone such actions. That's just me though.

You seem to make it by with a 6758 pushing 430whp on pump gas with a stock head...

In before Sam ( Wert ) brings up his so far bulletproof stock valvetrain! Can't wait to hear some dyno numbers on these.
