Exclamation ZFR Turbo Flutter ?

So I had the ZFR installed over the past weekend, Turbo was primed and broken in and has over 600 miles on it now " Turbo is brand new "

Everything is installed properly, and I don't have any vacuum leaks, everything was retorqued after a couple hundred miles. Car is currently running on a base tune and the max psi the turbo is pushing is 12 psi for the moment till next week.

Every time I get on it and let off the gas WOT the turbo flutters, or so it sounds like it, on the oem turbo I got a single psssss noise when I shift WOT now I get a fluttering noise, kind of like a sequential BOV.

Is this normal since the car isn't fully tuned yet ? Do I have a sticky BPV or you think the vacuum line is bad or what ?

The Fluttering sounds like this except it happens at WOT shifts and I am pretty sure its not compressor surge lol

WOT that's not a good sound to hear. I guess if it were mine I'd check the vac line going to the BPV and make sure it's the one that went to your stock BPV. I've noticed on low boost levels or low load some BPVs and BOVs will chatter like that too. Could just be since you're only boosting to 12psi. That's nothing for that turbo.

It sounds kind of similar to mine but just slower. I'm guessing it might be the 12 psi. take it up to 20 psi and see what happens. here is a video of mine and you can hear its almost the same just faster. You can hear it better if you fast forward to the 2 minute mark, or watch the whole thing it's not that bad.

I'll double check that line and I'll probably replace it with a new one just to be on the safe side then I'll turn the boost up

Yes I'm also getting this. Sounds more like the second video than original but I'm sure it's the same thing. What you you guys done to fix this issue? I've tried both stock and forge bpv

There is no issue. That's just how this turbo recirculates the air. Makes that sound lol. I'm using the stock EFR BPV, no reason to swap it out at all.

its not a good noise to here if ur at wot and not letting off, he is letting off, which means its not the turbo its the bpv not opening properly

The only other thing I can think of is to use a super light spring in the bpv, or I may just try out a bov

The sound only happens when I let off only, WOT sounds normal

Everything is hooked up the same way as stock, no vacuum tank bypass over here I have a ZZP Full intercooler package and a K&N air intake.

I replaced the efr bpv with k04 bpv same thing flutter. Then I did vacuum tank delete it still didn't solve it. Then I bought a forge atmospheric and still had flutter with both springs so idk... I assume that the bpv that comes with efr was tested and made for it. It doesn't happen at wot though unless I'm in the lower rpm range. Maybe zzp can chime in?

And what about my post made you think that I was suggesting there was something wrong with his turbo?

It's the BPV obviously. May be no big deal though. Has anyone tried to hook it directly to the IM vs hooking it up through that solenoid that the stock one runs off of?

needs a retune have your tuner change the settings on when the blow off valve but that little flutter will not damage the turbo

Iv tried with stock, doesn't help, if ur using any spring stiffer than stock it flutters

I have a theory, big turbo, more air, maybe the stock bpv on the turbo is just to close to the compresser wheel to let all the air out, see what a bov further down the line will do, if it fixes it I think that may be the issue. That's probably why they have a vac tank for stock, keeps the bpv open longer and faster, so I'd think if u get a bigger turbo, ud need a bigger vacuum tank. This is my theory

I did to but without it u get flutter unless ur on stock spring, plus I made my lower ic pipe like stock cause it didn't have the air hose nipple, made flutter go away even more, and I'm putting check valve on back side of bpv solenoid so it only sees vacuum like stock, see if that helps more. Still has little flutter

BTW, just to point out. If my car is making that noise. His is making it too. So is his. Oh yea so is his. Then I'm guessing that's how it's supposed to be lol. I was in your same position when I first got it. There was only one video out of another ZFR at that time and that was xxghostxx. I think it'll be okay.
