zzp intercooler vs treadstone

dont want to start a war but i need an intercooler asap. i like that the zzp one fills the air dam the most, i feel like it will be a better performer. but i am lowered with pedders and the roads out here are not the best so the treadstone is nice for that but want to make sure i am getting the best performance possible.

I prefer treadstone. Because it sits higher and only took a short time to install... Plus I had issues when ordering my parts and treadstone came through. Plus I had a issue with installing a part and the where quick to help me with it. The customer service with treadstone is worth it IMO. Hope I don't start a war either just my .02

When I'm gonna upgrade my IC, I'm going with Treadstone. IMO it looks better than the others.

I have treadstone TR8 and I like it but I get the feeling it cools slightly better than stock for higher boosted cars. ZZP seems like it cools a lot, its just the impression that I get. If I could do it again I'd go MPx. With my beta kit I had to get my tubing bead rolled. Like the Guy stated above. Looks wise treadstone kills it. Love the look. ZZP hangs down a Tad and MPX has issues with their end tank connections being a Tad too small. They all have pros and cons. I think you'll be happy no matter which way you go.

This is my car up on the lift with the top of the camera smacked up against the bottom of the Treadstone IC at the driver side looking to the passenger side.

It looks like way more clearance than is needed, but the whole plastic bumper/lip flexes out of the way when it hits the ground, and the IC of course doesn't.

You'll notice you can actually see the coldside connector past the IC. The inlet and outlet are at stock height, but the bottom of the IC is moved up that high.

I went ZZP. I absolutely loathed the mounting point of the TR8 because it reminded me of the Crazy Steve IC. I also didn't want two extra clamps that could blow off. As you can see, the ZZP does hang a lot lower, but it is HUGE compared to the TR8. The ZZP simply HAS to cool better just due to size. The mounting of the ZZP is awesome. I'd stay away from MPX until they figure out what a 2.5" pipe actually looks like.

Shave 2-3 inches from the bottom off of that IC in height and I would really love that IC BUT it looks like it just doesnt fit because its sticks out and I would defiantely clip that on something.

I have the Zzp ic instaed and I love it. Yes it does hang down a tad but so did the synapse one I had. With the Zzp my iat2 temps are damn near ambient all the time.

how come we cant just drill new hole in the bracket or elongate the existing ones and slide it up a little higher. i understand it has to mate to the charge pipes but there has to be some play on them

Why is anyone worried about the IC hanging lower? Drive carefully and you won't scrape. Finally lowered my car and my X-Pipe hangs 1.75'' off the ground.

Because once in a while, things don't go as planned.

ok guys i think ive taken the treadstone off the list, i just done like that the core does not fill the air dam, plus i dont like the idea of 2 extra couplers that could pop off.

so its pretty much the zzp or the mpx.

anyone notice a difference in spool up between the two? i dont want to be waiting forever to boost, this is my autox/street car not my drag car lol

Ya I'd say mpx or treadstone. I'm still on the fence for each of those though.....

hers my 2 cents;
Pros: I like the ZZP because it does fill the air damn, and looks pretty sweet.

Cons; Going with a core longer than a 22" kills performance exponentially, and what i mean is pressure drop across the core increases. 90% of the cooling is done within the first 6-9 inches of the core. Im willing to bet if you compare the 2 back to back, manifold intake pressure will increase. the increase may only be a couple tenths, but its something.
We make one core that is 28" long and 4" thick, its for the Sti, were guys run 30psi during a time attack race, and the extra length is need to prevent heat soak

I'd say you'll be happy with either one. Treadstone looks better IMO and works good. CudaJoe says its like 2-3 degrees away from ambient temps. The only thing I didn't like was having to get the tubes bead rolled. It cost me an extra $25 not bad but it made me feel like I purchased an unfinished product and that just lowered my excitement. With me most if not all my mods were geared towards reliability. To fix the weak points of my car. Also I feel like I'm gonna have to check the clamps every once and a while to make sure they stay tight.

I don't know why I didn't see this post, but I think that's relative to where you live. Colorado's roads for one is bad, it's like our road budget is low priority. Secondly, it's very hard to find flat roads. Most flat roads still have little waves in them. Finally, the road changes angles all the time. Coming across an intersection, you can see a dip or angle change and the speed limit is 40. Something like that if going 40 and slammed, you're scraping for sure. I scrapped my car stock, Then I did it lowered and took it at an angle. The risk for me using ZZP IC is too great. So ZZP isn't realistic for me.

ZZP's pipes have a bead on them, in case anyone wants to know.
