0-60 Feels slow...

I just recently bought an SS/SC 2006 with 60k miles...

The internet claims that I should be going about a 6.0-6.5 ish 0-60, however when I get friends to try and time my pull I always get 8.5 seconds or worse.. I don't know whether or not he is timing it wrong or something is wrong with my car.. Im launching at about 3000 rpm and shifting at red line hitting 60 in 2nd gear. My friend says the exhaust smells funny and my clutch is slipping every gear switch..

Any ideas on what can be wrong?

Exhaust smelling funny could be a bad cat... The clutch slipping could be your driving, my lsj took a bit to get used to. Or just a bad clutch. You know not to do low rpm high load right?

it might just be how he is timing it. and or might be the timer. hitting 60 in 2nd sounds fine. But go to a used car lot around the area that has a stock lsj ss sc. And test drive it and see how it feels ! lol

I don't really know if I drive it right as well... I get to a sweet spot to start off at 3000 and I drop the clutch and slowly build instead of flooring it to avoid spin... even if I "slowly" build I still end up spinning at 5k.. then I hit the clutch shift to second as fast as possible and hit the gas immediately if not during my dropping the clutch. Should I just bring my car to like firestone or something to check if anything is wrong? I really don't know much of cars lol just my basic stuff

Well the timing could be off but also keep in mind there is speedo lag. Not 2.5 seconds worth of course but there is lag. Pedal first gear right and take it all they way to 35mph before you shift without wheelspin. Slam 2nd and u should have a solid 6.5-7 usually. It takes a really good driver to hit a 6.0 on a stock ss i bet

Please don't tell me your friend is using a stopwatch.... that is about as accurate as counting yourself.

Also, a slipping clutch is possible with 60k on the clock, but my bet is you need a little more practice going through the gears.

You may or may not being smelling exhaust. Could be your clutch. If it's the exhaust, check your cat.

I'm not saying you are a bad driver but maybe you just need to practice getting a good launch which is tough with fwd. I drag raced a kid with a 360awhp sti and consistently ran better times with 100 less horse., my point is just because the car is capable doesn't always mean the driver is.

this thread is retarded.

1) if its your clutch get on the highway in 4th at 2.5k rpm and floor it. If the rpms climb then drop its ur clutch

2) blue exhaust is oil, white exhaust is coolant, black is fuel/rich.

3) if your car seems like its broken, DONT BEAT ON IT. Do a damn compression test ( wet and dry ) and compare the numbers to the manual and what other people get. Stop being a newb and make sure the car is OK to beat on before you keep beating on it.

4) What is this timing crap? U need to take it to the drag strip to see where you stand. Kill this ricer stopwatch garbage.

If your clutch is slipping in every gear, I would be getting that fixed right away before it leaves you on the side of the road.

Subraru owner should be tied to the back of his car and dragged down the quarter mile if this is true

Launching from 5th is best for the clutch and 1/4 mile times

Unfortunately true I ran a 13.9 and he pulled 14.0 that run. I heard him complaining about traction and heard him say 13.6 was his best time.

Is your Heat Exchanger pump working? My car fell flat on it's face in the summer because my IAT2's were over 150.
