05 ss S/c. whats with 3rd gear?

i noticed this a while back but it didnt register until today. when im at the track and im racing from a dig. my 3rd tops out at or around 80mph. today, i was on a wide open highway in south nj and i decided to test my wot box out a little bit. since i was the only car in sight i figured it would be okay.

im doing about 75 in a 65 and i down shift to 4th. still had plenty of room so i went to 3rd and give it a punch. 80 came quickly, obviously, and it kept pulling. my 3rd gear topped out around 110. once i saw it pass 80 i watched the road and had my passenger keep watch on the guages.

why is this? i found it quite odd, actually.

3rd gear tops out around 105~110@7k rpms. 4th gear can do about ~140mph or so. I don't see how it's possible for 3rd to top out at 80, even with a 6500rpm limit.

thats why im asking. from a dig:

1st - 30 top
2nd - 60 top
3rd - 80
4th - unsure. i would break when i pass.

a roll... when when im slowingdown, ill heel-toe into first at like 30 and be able to ride it to 40.
2nd, ill hit 75-80
3rd i saw it get to 115
and i never saw the top of 4th or 5th. its not necessary.

Is your clutch slipping in a really weird way and your redlining due to that? I would think it would slip at the beginning of the gear but you never know.

hahahah

bumblebee's 103 i can understand with a difference in tires/shifting points. but 110 at the stock redline, which isn't 6250 btw. just doesn't add up

i have a 7300redline. i shift at 6500 though from first(computer reset it to 6500 in first). and then 7200ish from 2nd. but i don't really pay attention to the exact mph. i know its a bit over 70 cause after i shift i look down and its creeping up on 80. i go through the traps in third between 103-104 with another 600rpms left

jim you should get atleast 110 out of your 3rd. with your taller tires and higher rev limit....u wont have to worry about shifting to 4th in the 1/4 mile unless you do some insane power adders

he's probly just looking at the severely lagging stock tachometer. in 1st and 2nd you will slam the rev limiter if you go by that thing...

If 3rd is topping out at 80 then your clutch has to be slipping.
