2.0 oil filter cap...

Hi everyone...just did my first oil change on my cobalt and realized the cap that holds the filter element into the block is plastic. Does anyone know the part number or where I can get a spare cap incase this one cracks in the future?? Does anyone know if an aftermarket aluminum is available. Thanks!

ALL ecotecs share the same filter and cap, and they are all that gay ass plastic. But for ~$14 you get the cap, O-ring and filter from GM, so not too bad of a deal. I don't have the P/N off the top of my head. But just ask your local dealership.

I always reccomend keeping a spare on hand, they CAN AND DO FAIL. I'm on the 4th one on my Cavalier.

I keep hoping someday, someone will make an Aluminum replacement

EDIT: A good torque wrench, proper socket (32mm) and patience will improve the lifespan on any given cap. I also think that they fail less when the engine/cap is still warm, just my hypothesis though, don't blame me if you burn yourself with hot oil, lol

Cool idea TurboTommy.

Maybe the aftermarket companies could look into a cast aluminum powder coated replacement cap (choice of car colors and chrome) for under $60. I'd buy one.
