2.4 Block

Hey guys, haven't been around for a while and I know this is a random question if it hasn't been asked before, but I know some compaines engines internals are interchangable. Can I swap a 2.4 block into my 2.0? Is the intake side of the head interchangable with the blower? In many chevrolet instances, engines of different displacement share a similar block and head(s). Leave the flaming (if any) to a minimum please

Yes you can! Just run the lsj head on the le5 block and you will be ok.

iirc, the 2.4l vvt eco has the same clutch and tranny as the 2.2l.

there are quite a few differences in the ecotec bottom ends. the 2.0l is the only one with an oil cooler, the other blocks do not have provisions for it. in the bottom end, the crank is stronger in the boosted versions, also 8 bolt flywheel vs 6 bolt for the 2.2/2.4. there are also forged pistons and oil squirters to cool the pistons.

if your looking at doing an engine buildup and wanting the extra displacment, just use a 2.4l crank in an lsj block. as long as you dont go passed 500hp you will be ok. custom pistons may be needed with the extra stroke though.

well, I guess the easier way to go would be just to get the 2.4 crank then with a set of forged pistons, and will "bolt" in(for lack of a better word)? This is going to be the first internal mod I have done so far and I want to ask a bunch of questions. It's not going to be for another couple of months at least, but I want to have my facts straight. What kind of a hp/tq gain am I looking at with this?

thats going to be alot more work then you think. check out fullthrottle's build up thread on the redline forums. he has done exactly what you were thinking of (2.4 bottom end w/ LSJ head) and it certainly doesn't seem like a straight swap. with the tranny as well I believe he needed a custom flywheel and clutch among other things to bolt the LSJ tranny to the LE5 block.

I would either swap the 2.4 complete and build from there or build your current 2.0 for simplicity sake.

you're talking about a 2.4 block correct? i didn't really follow what you were saying. i'm talking about using a 2.4 crank with forged pistons, but it seems like you're talking about using a 2.4 block, but i may have read it wrong.

Ahhhhhh..... I see your a believer in the "No replacment for displacment" school of thought. Well your 100% correct! Bigger is better! Always has been, always will be. True this may **** off some 2.0 owners to hear but the 2.4 having a larger displacment will make more power if built similerly to the 2.0. Its just basic physics, the larger the cylinder, the larger the piston area, the more that can be cramed into it, the bigger the bang. All that translates into MORE POWER.

There are a couple SC 2.4's and turboed 2.4's running around they'd be the guys to talk to.
