2.8 or 2.9?
2.8 or 2.9?
Trying to make a decision on my friends pulley size. He runs his car everyday with 65000 miles on it. He has an h/e for cooling so what will be the best bet? 2.8 and 60's or 2.9 and 42's? Any input?
Thanks
Thanks
A 2.9 is pushing it on 60s, I'd go the safer route and go 60s. If you're going 60s, you might as well put the 2.8 on it.
FWIW, I daily drive my car on a TVS with a 2.7 pulley, 80# injectors, and almost 80,000 miles on the car and it's fine. As long as he doesn't drive like an idiot, he'll be fine.

Just me, but I would never put a canned tune on a daily driver. Chances are it'd be fine, but just saying, if it were my car that I was relying on for daily transportation, I'd have a tune lined up before I bought the parts.
i ran 42lb with a 2.8 and of course people well start freaking out that i did. but im at a way higher elavation 6800'. but i relly didnt have problems with it. im not for sure but i think u well loose more gas with 60 but more power. i havent researched but there use to be a problem with the 60 at idle, it seemed to be very bouncy. IDK if this was fixed or what, but just letting you know what i thought. FYI when i had my 60 with 1 injector Fed up i pulled about a car and 1/2 on my buddy 09 GTi. when i switched to 42s i barely pull a car on him. so 60's are nice but 42 arent bad.

Sometimes too safe!! Meaning they run very rich. Bad for performance, and can lead to fouled plugs and other issues.
I would get a nice custom tune for sure. As for the belt or tensioner, I would go with the belt.

Many factors lead to maxing injectors & their pulsewidths / IDC % (elevation, temperature, how rich or lean the tune is, rev limit, etc.).
But for someone starting out they should just get 60's so they have more room to expand power wise.

I would just go 2.8, 60's, and get either hpt or trifecta. Why throw money away on a canned tune when he already knows he is gonna change it. I would also get a dual pass or single core if he wants/can spring the money for it. Also get a smaller belt.
I have been dd mine on a 2.8 for 2 years. I drive my car hard and everyone I know will vouch that I do. compression is still 190 across the board with 68k.

Simply said, 42.5s are WAY beyond max IDC on a 2.8. Daily driving where your RPMs aren't going crazy high probably wouldn't cause a problem, but if you ever want to get on it, especially if you do it often or drive at a sustained high RPM, you're running the risk of the injectors going static, causing an extreme lean condition, and blowing the motor sky high.
Have people run 42.5s and a 2.8? Sure. Is it a good option for most people? No.
I'd also go with the belt.
Yeah your right. I think he wants to get it going so he can go drive somewhere to get tuned. Like out of state somewhere. It is a waste of money but there is NOone around here that has experiance with cobalts
For $175 definitely send the stock one back, LOL.
If you can't find a tuner, Trifecta isn't bad. I don't like the idea of long-distance tuning, but it sounds like that's what you're going to end up doing anyway. With everything HPT has unlocked for the LSJ, I personally would go that route. BUT I also live with one of my tuners
, so that makes a difference.
