2.9 Pulley... is it safe?

Ok, I've had my Nates 2.9 sitting in my room for a few weeks now. I want so bad to install it but I am rather hesitant due to the fact that I've read some threads talking about how bad a smaller pulley is for your motor without supporting / cooling mods. I need some intelligent feedback on this topic. If I install it without cooling mods do I risk hurting my car? What about power increase... in the same thread I read someone stated that a smaller pulley actually decreases engine power as a result of the timing retarded a bit.

I guess I should add...

I have Stage 2, Ingen on the way, GMPP Perf. Exhaust on the way,
And I DO NOT race or drive hard.

Do you have stage 1 or 2? If you do, you are fine with the 2.9"

You'll be fine with a 2.9". Most guys on here consider that to be about the max you can go on the stage II injectors. Any smaller and you would probably need 60's. I've heard nothing but good things about stage II + the 2.9". Its a pretty popular combination.

2.9 is as low as I would run on stage 2 or 42LB injectors in general. I run a 2.9 and have yet to have a problem.
