2005 cobalt ss: a second factory supercharger offered?

Hey guys. I was recently talking with someone about buying their car. and they tried telling me that there were actually TWO superchargers that were offered on the cobalt ss. i've done some snooping online and cant seem to find anything on this subject. so i was wondering if the kind cobalt community could help me out so anyways....

He claims that in 2005 they offered two different superchargers for the cobalt ss. one which is the one that everyone knows about.. which produced the 205hp and 200tq -the m62 i believe? but this guy claims that they made another one in 2005, where it was discontinued before 2006. and claims stock numbers of 263hp and a torque rating of over 300. he says that the only difference between this is different internals and it was flashed to have an increased power output.

i dont believe any of this... I dont know a whole lot about these superchargers, and i just wanted to see if anyone knew what he was talking about? he said he doesnt know if they gave this supercharger a different name.. but claims its in the list of 2005 cobalt ss recalls. i havent found it.. so if anyone could shed some light on this subject.. it would be very much appreciated.

Yea, they did make 2 superchargers for the SS/SC back in the day. The 2nd one was never put into production though. I own one of them. It was called the H62. It had high helix rotors and did produce more power than the M62.

No. There's only ever been one factory supercharger. The internals from 2005-2007 are identical. The only "flash" ever offered was GM Stage 1/2/3 and that was not offered from the factory, it was a dealer installed option.

There are factory stage kits. Stage 1,2 and 3. Stage 3 puts down around the numbers he was talking about.

yeahh i agree.. but i was just curious.. the guy has an 06 cobalt ss with a 2.7" pulley, 65lb injectors, full exhaust, cold air intake, and said its tuned to run at 18 psi. and he was trying to claim his numbers as 317hp and 380tq.. and i told him that was impossible on the mods he listed.. and then he preceded to tell me this story^^ lol.. i think its all bullshit.. but i guess we'll see.

2 superchargers did come out, the main one m62 and the h62 aka High Helix. the h62 was only made for the time attack cobalt so only a handfull were ever made so good luck finding one. now they have the tvs supercharger which can get you into the 300whp range.

65 lbs injectors don't exist.

On and M62, that's not even close to realistic. On a Harrop......meh. You're getting closer but still not quite there.

OP said factory, hence why I told him there's only one. No need to add confusion to the mix.

I'm not trying to confuse him. I'm letting him know there were 2 different ones made for the SS/SC back in the day.

I am showing you proof that they exist man. Maybe your buddy has one of the other H62's. Tell him to snap some photos of the rotors.

Not that huge.

They make around 20-30whp over the M62.

I put down 282whp with mine running a 73mm pulley, Intake, GMPP Manifold, Catted Downpipe, Catback Exhaust, & race gas.

I should make more this spring with some of my new mods. They are by no means as good as a TVS, but they are rare and provide a decent bump over the M62.

No, those are bullshit numbers.

If he bought the car new it came with an M62. They never sold the H62 blowers on production cars.
