2006 K&N CAI

I was just talking to K&N and there saying the CAI they have for the 2005 is going to be different for the 2006, they said 3-4 weeks until its released. Hopefully this will solve the CEL'S on the 2006 model!

I have an 05 Injen CAI on my 06 SS/SC and have had no CEL's. I dont see how the intake would cause the CEL unless its causing a huge difference in teh A/F ratio or the oil from the filter gets on the MAF.

Cars are the same, intake trac, engine, etc. Only difference I believe is the ECU.

I would say this leads me to believe it to be the cars fault and not the intake, but some people have problems some dont, its very strange.

Question

my cousin who knows a considerable ammount more then I about cars says that the CEL
for an oil-filled MAF is because a supercharger creates alot of oil, and a catch can would solve that problem. is this right or no, and if so is anyone making one

Your friend is a d******d. The supercharger has nothing to do with the CEL's. The MAF sensor that gets oil on it is at the very end of your intake tube which is farther away from the Supercharger, then the filter itself. People do not get CEL's without adding an intake so his theory is false. The problem is the MAF is put withink inches of a newly installed filter. ON a supercharged engine the vacum created when under hard acceloration causes the oil from the filter to be sucked into the intake tube and often times this oil will hit the MAF senor in this process. This can/may be the reason alot of people pull CEL's but alot of times its because the engine starts to run lean or the Air to Fuel ratio is changed, and the cobalts ECU was set with very stricked toloerances.

don't the instructions say not to touch the metallic parts of the MAF sensor that plugs into the intake..??
although, that would be too easy.....

Why is everyone worried about the CEL? does it hurt the car? My goes on for like a couple of hours then goes off and won't come back on for a week or 2. I just don't understand what the big deal is.

Running already with a CEL ON won't tell you if the car has another bigger problem.

I bet K&N is redesigning their intake because they see that Injen was able to not get a CEL with theirs. I couldn't imagine being any difference with an '05 to an '06 besides hearing that the computer is a little more leniant on the '06. So does this mean they are redesigning the '05 for no CEL and coming out with an intake for the '06 as well?

Maybe the company that sold me the 05 and said it was for an 06 will replace mine since I'm an 06 who has a CEL on most of the time. (which reminds me where can i get a CEL vinyl? Think that would look tight )

that would be nice if someone would replace the 05 intakes for the people with 06's and 05 intakes for a exchange fee...i probably would do it just to do it for safety sake...AHEM AHEM!!

Dman, so you have how many miles on your car and no CEL yet? Any hints on if you did something different on the install? Thanks.

I really hope K&N will let me exchange my damn intake then.... That would be really beat if they sold a product that didn't work as stated and then released one that did.

DITTO! I truly wonder if they have a bum product. As far as I know, that would be their first.
