2007 ss/sc mods?
2007 ss/sc mods?
Ok to start off I would like anyone to give me advise on mods to squeeze out close to or above 300 hp out of my stock balt. I'm deployed to iraq, and when i get back I plan to drop some cash on it I know my way around a tool box. I am an helicopter tech. in the marines. All I'm asking for is what has worked for some people and not worked so I don't make the same mistakes. Basically if you had the cash right now what would you do and why?
I was looking into a turbo swap but I wanted to know if anyone ran into problems with that and what is the best way to go and I'm willing to swap out internals the last thing i want to do is to blow a gasket or mess up a piston or totally blow an engine.

Race
Ported
Head
yea i was reading raw post on ported heads and they never followed up on the performance gains and their air filter looked pretty cool since its stainless and the numbers for intense stage mods look good does anyone recomend an exaust but im going to keep my mind open and i wont get home for another 3 and a half months its not going to be a daily driver either i have a motorcycle for that
you wont need internals for 300 hp. paul (06blackg85ss) man 296 on his setup with the supercharger and no problems. he then hit 350+ on his turbo setup. all on stock internals. when people are blowing up there cars, its mostly because of there tune. that or there on the supercharger so much it ends up ******* up there piston. in other words if your going to go down to smaller pully make sure you have the proper cooling equpiment. i would personally go with Cobalt-addiction.com stage 5 setup if you want power. the only thing is i would buy it piece by piece, the whole setup includes money for a tune from them. your better off not getting their tune and just having it tuned by a local shop to get the most out of it.
well im looking at getting some new axles but would that affect my locking diff since i have the g85 package?? i really didnt know i had the g85 package untill pinkstriped cobalt pointed it out i think thats her name on here so i guess my choices are turbo or bolt on parts well im going to price around and feel free to tell me what worked and didnt work thanks
Procharger kit with a 2.3 - 2.5" pulley. It made 260whp on a 12psi pulley(2.95" or so). The smallest pulley you can get(2.25") makes about 21 - 24psi(the LSJ intake manifold drops 3psi). But thats going to push something like 350-400whp. Run with a slightly bigger pulley and 300whp is a breeze.
Depending on whether or not GM is to be believed, their 300 HP setup involves:
- More aggressive camshafts
- Forged aluminum pistons (10.5:1 compression)
- Stage 3 pulley
- 2-pass intercooler end plate
- New balance shaft (With this alone, GM claims a recovery of the majority of the 10HP it takes to drive the stock balance shaft, the stock one is scalloped to reduce vibration)
- Bigger injectors (likely 60lb/hr, but the PDF's I'm reading list 5.64 gallons per second, must either be a typo or I'm just a n00b
)
- Beefier valve springs
- And finally, a tune.
They probably also up the redline to a full 8k RPM's thanks to the new springs, that's likely what the more aggressive cams are for as well, and the pistons bump up the compression to 10.5:1. The way they did it seems quite safe and sets you up for lots more power with an I/H/E job (notice they didn't touch the airflow at all). With an I/H/E upgrade, a 2.7" pulley and another tune, I could see 350 HP out of this car (although that's too much to put through the front wheels of a car for my taste, lol).
those PDF's can be had from GM Tuner Source if you're interested, they have lots of pics and step by step directions if you know your way around an engine block. Have fun!
